This is the U.S version, 3 exhaust ports, built in Germany. All 2.6, 2.8, 2.9 4.0L were made in Germany.
I was once looking at the 4.0 version. Any pitfalls with that one? The type nine is a five speed available on several British and German models. It a pretty compact unit that is popular for five speed conversions on a number of British sports cars.
The 4.0 runs well. None of the thinwall casting engines do well if they get hot, but if you keep it cool I've heard they are very reliable.
Right. Ours - I'm talking about the UK 30 years ago - all had siamized ports and thought of as inferior to the local Es***. But the Es*** was HEAVY
Seems like siamese heads run good modified up. I tried to find some here before I worked on the U.S. versions to make my headers easier.
Dave Williams' well-known chart gives 305 (Cologne) vs 379 (Es***) but what he shows for other Ford V6s is heavier, and that I presume includes "your" Colognes...
I'm sure it has much to do with the dress of the engine. Cologne engine with a pretty full dress I've heard quoted at 370's lb. What Dave say about an MGB engine?
He does not list it but from my days in the UK I remember it being something like 360 lbs. Generally a popular swap was the Buick/Rover all-ali V8 which was much lighter so improved the handling, plus was done by Costello and then the factory back in the day so all the bits were available, not so with the Ford V6s. A bigger "US" Cologne should weigh more than the "Euro/UK" version I ***ume...
