Yes it is the same gl***. I also have bought a dodge LCF cab for parts. It has good gl*** and I have a couple spare big back windows and side windows. My plan is to do minimal body work and zero paint
Such a huge task you have there! I'm sure there are plenty that would be willing to help you out with this issue.
I was thinking about your no-sleeper plan... I see how those wraparound corner windows would complicate things (A LOT)... But what about your usage... When you have something in tow on the 5th wheel, will you need more than 2 seats in the COE's cab?? FYI: My sleeper is of minimal use cuz the legroom is near nothing with the motor under it. But it's really nice to have the front seats move back into it as well as a place to throw jackets, coolers and other junk that my wife might want to bring. LOL.
More seating is a consideration, I love the big back window cabs but I have a couple pickup and the LCF cab that are small back window so I could make it happen. Depends how ambitious I’m feeling.
I hear that. I toiled over finding a second cab to make the truck a 4 door, but with my minimal body work skills that would have added years to the build. I decided a Peterbilt sleeper was easier.
Dana 70? Rockwell 140? I've got the latter on my 1-ton '29AA. It's got a 5.14:1 differential. I can only get a 4.86 as an alternative and for my use, I probably don't need to spend the time and money to switch out the ring and pinion. It wouldn't give me that much more top speed. Sounds like you're thinking along the same lines. One question: on the gooseneck, do you center the pivot directly over the rear axle? I'm thinking of fabricating an express bed like the Waltons' lumber mill truck but would like the option to fit a gooseneck saddle inside the bed. I call it a farm rod.
I actually have bought a frame and driveline minus engine from a mid ‘80’s L8000 Ford. I will be using that rear end and the 8LL transmission, with a 12 valve ***mins. the fifth wheel will be centered or slightly ahead of the axle depending on what the wheelbase and bed length end up being.
