I ordered the wiper kit today; they said it would take a couple of weeks to get it. I also took the bed off the frame so I could do a test fit on the cab.

I had to make a piece( call it a 'foot" ) that supports the pedal end of the ***embly It's under the cover on the pedal end of the ***embly. I know it belongs there because it was on the truck when I got it; I just couldn't find it now. SOS

Ugh! I remember so many evenings in the garage, plugging, welding and grinding all those firewall holes closed. I am a fanatic when it comes to tidy bulkheads. When they are all done, it will have been worth every ounce of wire. Stay on it.

I got the cab sitting on the frame today; now I have to get the wood blocks under the cab and bolt it down. My winter plan is to lay out the wiring, install the seat riser and build a seat. I also plan to repair the bottom hinge on both doors.

New pic of the cab on the wood risers and very close to mounting holes lining up. First thing is to rework the trans cover with a raised section for the fat section of the shift tower. cab located on frame.jpg
Hi-HO HI-HO it's off to work we go.

Here are some pix of the trans cover mods to cover the shift tower on the TOD T170. transcoovermod..jpg
The little red thing is either a back-up light switch or a neutral safety switch. I plan on using the stock ignition switch (on the column) and push ****on start with the Ford solenoid on the firewall. I hope.

Red thing is reverse light switch. Also to critique your wall around the shifter. If you leave off the wall the stock boot covers most of that area you just need to clear the reverse switch. Just plateau the top of the cover (see red line) to give clearance for the switch and wiring.

I was planning on "flat topping" on the vertical walls, which should expose the just the cap that screws on the tower. Thanks for your comments; I think we're on the same page.

One more piece to add and then finish weld the corners. Trans cover mod2.jpg
You can see the opening to the right of the shift lever.

Thanks Sam and Tom and all the guys that have followed this project.
On another note, I wondered why the water pumps have elongated holes where the pumps bolt to the crossmember; my p***enger side aluminum head is resting against the firewall. I'll need to move the engine about 1/8" toward the radiator which requires the trans mount to be elongated also. Opportunities!

54 holes welded up on my 40pu firewall. I didn’t know you could mount that many heaters, regulators and **** on s firewall. On a good note I’m with bandit on Newport wipers, absolutely bolt in, plug in and that’s it. Sure you have to drill a few holes, but they are one of the few things I have bought that fit and worked as advertised. Keep on truckin Joel.

If the '40 is like my '38 many of the holes in the firewall were for the mounting clips holding the insulating pad that was on the interior side.

Yeah, I think I welded one of them by mistake; I have to mount the fuse box yet and I'm looking at the p***. side. I have to string out the harness and make sure there is enough to reach everything. The center inside of the firewall is for the heater and I am waiting on the wiper kit.

I welded all those little clip holes closed since I was going to use adhesive sound deadener on the truck. You are doing nice work!

Thanks, BB. I spent a couple of hours today on the internet looking for a boot to cover and seal the ch***is noise and heat from the driver. I'd like to cover the lower part of the stick to improve aesthetics below the round part of the stick. modified shifter.jpg
I need one about 6 1/2 in. tall and 4 1/2 in. dia. or 4 1/2 x 5 rectangle base. Most listings I found didn't give any dimensions. I' like to hide the square part.

  22. Great work Joel. For my '32, I made my own (similar to the Lokar version).

I looked at them and I am going to call . I hope to find something off the shelf, in stock. It's a little "street rody " but that stick is **** ugly.:)
I can't sew for ****; wife has to fix my jeans.

The one I used was from a kenworth or similar big rig. Put this number in Google #91021804

I have to say the material is ****, thin vinyl, not even that nice hyde from a naga. But they make excellent templates for anyone with a sewing machine that can sew leather. As for the SS ring, scuff it and paint it black if you like. Its difficult when you need to hide the lower part of that stick.
