  3. The ch***is is back home. I was lucky that there were no weather incidents that got in the way. This is actually a big deal. Without the ch***is getting done I can't put the drive train back in. That would slow things down if I had to wait until spring to move the car. I just received a notice that the pistons will show up Friday. I will be able to put together a fresh rack. I'm just waiting on the crank to return and the new rings to ship. With the engine out I can do a good scrub on the frame while I wait.

It never gets old. The new pistons arrived just like they said. Ordered a racer set of ten. The old ones were still good. They get put in the trailer as spares. It never hurts to have spares.

Nitro cars don't use spiro locks or clips to retain the pins. ****ons are used. The oil control ring holds them in place. The cam cut rod goes on the valve relief side of the piston. These procedures can't be messed up. The engine won't turn over. The rods are numbered on one side only. It makes it fool proof during bearing changes. The pistons are numbered also. Filing rings is next. .035

  9. It looks like your thumb had a little meeting with your hammer….

  10. Sure did removing valve guides. Oil on my hands wasn't a good idea.
The coating is some kind of anodizing. It's very hard. It's difficult to machine. The cutter and chips glow red. It smells bad. Once through it machines like normal.

Congrats on the family addition. Last Dec 7th I added the ***le of Great grandfather and at the September Bonneville World Final he was trying to steal the drivers seat from his dad our oldest grandson. At 10 months already a Bonneville meet under his belt. I’ll be waiting and watching you next year for sure. IMG_0461.jpeg

  14. The torsion bars came off tonight. Coils replaced them. This cleaned up the front end alot. The car was scaled before I took it apart. That way the proper coil spring could be ordered. I will have alot of room in front of the engine now to work on it. Of course nothing was cut or thrown away so I can put it back the way it was in the future. 15. This will get the front end more tunable?

  17. The shocks are the same double adjustable as before. Only the way the car is held up has changed. It's not about tuning. It's about having more room to work on the engine

  19. Seems to be asking a lot of those lower shock mounts, are they going to be changed out for something more suited for holding the weight of the front end?

  20. I have had the same mounts on the car since the car was built. They have thousands of street miles on the and who knows how many p***es. They are beefy mounts

  21. Jerry my crew man told me about a tig welder that was just listed on marketplace. It was crazy cheap. Racers being racers the dinner had to wait. The trailer was hooked up and off we went to get it. We tested it before loading. It came with a extra set of cables to stick weld. The very nice cart was a added bonus. 22. Happy thanksgiving everyone. The post welder feast is under way. My 30 plus year tradition is a pizza and pumpkin pie. We all have a lot to be thankful for starting with living in the USA. PXL_20251127_213229328.jpg PXL_20251127_213217344.jpg

Screw the turkey...THAT sounds like my kind of ideal Thanksgiving dinner...my wife ain't going for it.

  24. Just got the call that the crank is good to go. It's straight and no cracks. The journals were within spec. It shipped today. Now all I need is a crank gear.

  25. Here's a perfect example on why I start early on my winter servicing. The out of stock crank gear I have been waiting three weeks for was shipped to a address in Arkansas. I guess we will see how long it takes to get another one shipped.

  26. I wasted no time getting the tig welder going. I had a 50 foot cable that was in my trailer to use as a land line. It came with the trailer. I never used it. I pulled it out in the spring. I kept it because it's worth a lot of money.
It was repurposed into a cord to power the welder. I took the cord off the welder using it to come out of the breaker box to a plug. I bought tips and a bottle along with steel and aluminum rod. I stopped at our local steel shop and bought enough steel to make a bottle holder. I made hooks to hold the cables. A sheet metal shelf was made to hold the foot switch. I just need a chain on the bottle and a aquarium pump to run the cooler. Then it's ready to use

A friend of mine had a in/out water hose on his tig welder, did a lot of work with it.

  28. A miller cooler is expensive. A five gallon bucket full of water and a aquarium pump is all you need. Less than fifty dollars. If your welding all day frozen water bottles or ice cubes are used. I never plan on welding long enough to need ice.

When I tig I only use water if I am going to be welding Long continuous time .@racer-x
On your search or waiting for the Milodon gear There is a person I know
Thats acquaintance with Jerry here local
That more likely has the gear There 2nd & 3rd generation racer's from mid 60's Nitro & Alky , If you mention my location Jerry more likely will know who I'm referring to. Or switch to RCD
Drive , Might be even same part , or RCD make .
What brand crank you running ?
I see sent out to Ohio , is it there carank.
Since you added a 20 pd shot weight up front , then you removed the torsion bar
Is Nose weight close to same weight Now.
Are you going to add other weight pucks in different locations threw out ch***is since set up for offset driver &
4 link so you can add & move weight around .
Since you are still with Bruno to Lenco
I can not remember on converter
If not all ready Are you going to
Use a Billet converter & have different stator's for tack's & Lock up & switching around Gears maybe 2 speed or maybe 3 speed .
Are you still against a Slipper ,
    Seems 3 to 4 Qt & I think its 3 E run's
Maybe 4 would get threw One race weekend , Service @ home until
    Next 2-4 week race .

  30. Wow that's a lot. I want a new gear. No used stuff. Milodon gears are specific to their products. It costs 85 dollars. A new rcd unit is around a grand.
I sent the crank to mile high crank in Denver. They are the best. They have a van that goes to all of the nhra races. They grab all of the pro teams hurt cranks. They are repaired and returned at the next race. The crank is a Callies or Bryant.
Removing the tortion bar removed very little weight. My corner weights are within ten pounds rt to lt.
The converter is a pro torque. It's welded steel. I have a Coan aluminum bolt together with multiple stators. I tried it but the pro torque worked better.
The trans was changed back to a three speed. It has a 1.25 and a 1.34 ratios. If the track is good I can leave with the 1.34 if it's slick I can leave on the 1.25. we are trying to cross the stripe at max rpm. I wasn't getting that with the 1.25. With the changes comes testing. The asphalt dyno will tell us which way to go. Good questions.
