Has the Carnut.com website finally been taken down? I tried to use it this morning and nothing came up. Damn, I'm gonna miss it, if it's done. It was a great resource.

That's not the same one. This site had an extensive photo library of old cars, indexed by make, year, etc. You could look up 37 Packard Coupe, for example. It also had a bunch of specifications for old cars. I'm pretty sure the guy that started this, p***ed away a few years ago and I think his family just kept it operating in his memory. Not sure about that but it was a really good resource.

yup, sure looks like it is gone, man, that's too bad. Just shows the internet content isn't always forever... I say print all of your pictures and put them in photo albums and have your pals over to see em....

All this stuff is available if someone pays to maintain the site. The fee for that really increased the last few years.

One of the Carnut sites is where I found my 48 photobombing the car in the photo at the 73 Street rod Nationals in Tulsa. That was in the 73 street rod nationals coverage in www.carnut.com . I had a computer crash a year ago and thought I had lost it but found it way way down my FB photo pages.

The only shot of my 48 in any one's coverage of the 73 nationals in Tulsa and then it is the gold truck in the upper left hand corner doing the photo bomb thing. Little behind 34 roadster at 73 street rod nationals..jpg

Sad indeed. I wonder how long the HOD ROD archives are going to last online before the C-Suite drops that cost? If I were more computer savvy, I'd be grabbing that now.

  10. I was a friend of George's and one who uploaded pics to his website. The last communication I had was in 2018 with the young man who uploaded the website to a new server. I'm sad to hear this has happened. I hope the info isn't lost forever. George believed that there was no such thing as too many pics. Very few things last forever. :)

I also met George in the early days of the internet. We crossed paths a couple of times a year for a long time. He was a quiet man who loved to photo automobiles. He wanted to preserve his site for the future and he had made some arrangements to keep it going, but I guess it has come to an end. Sadly it is another sign of the changing times.

My avatar picture came off Carnut.com. I didn't have a digital picture of it and sold it in the late 90's. Was a great site had thousands of pictures listed in categories, good for reference on different models and styles.
