So I didn’t start a build thread cause I thought gl*** cars were off limits. I checked with the bosses though and it’s allowed as long as it’s a traditional style build. So here’s where the project is at now. I’ll add build pics as time allows.

I like, but the gas tank would have to go into the trunk area to clean up the rear.

    Good luck and keep posting....

I, like most of you all I ***ume, always have some extra parts laying around. Well the extra early Ford suspension pile was getting pretty large. So I started keeping an eye out for a deal on some ‘32 rails to build a frame and ch***is at some point.

Looked for a long time with no luck and was gonna order a set to pick up at Carlisle or the like. Then a buddy called offering to sell a complete frame I totally forgot he had. The rear crossmember had been chopped out, rear horns cutoff and it was getting a little rusted from sitting. So the price was right.

Got it home, cleaned up and a coat of epoxy primer as it’d be sitting for awhile yet. Sandblasted some various original Ford suspension parts since the plan was coming together. Including an axle dropped by the one and only @jackandeuces

The worst part of building a 32 coupe is the cost of a steel body, the cost of a paint job and upholstery. You figured the body work around…keep on going, it looks fantastic!

Lookin good! I'm fine with the gas tank. Just think the taillights new to be moved back some. Good luck with the build.

    I agree.
I've always liked the smaller pod mounted tailites, mounted closer to the trunk.

Ya know.... An early Hemi would fit nicely into that engine compartment. ;)

It's the back burner project. But hoping to have it apart and painted before spring gets here. So, should make the fall show at least.

Ah, good question. I bought those from a buddy of mine that got them from his brother. He had them built with the intentions of building a 60's style East Coast hot rod. But he wanted to run disc brakes up front. So at the time he needed 16" wheels to clear them and 4.5" bolt pattern. So he dug up four '49-'51 Ford car 16" wheels that were good enough to chrome. And sent them to, I think, @wheelkid to get reversed. Then had them chrome plated. They've floated around as mock up wheels and rollers on a couple different projects between my buddy and I over the last 20 years . And I might actually steal them off the '32 for a '29 Coupe I plan to build later on. We shall see.

Dude. If the '32 wasn't so far along when I got the Hemi, it wouldn't even be a question :D

I have a '29 Poly Form gl*** roadster that is very faithful in its look....
one thing about a gl*** car.....you can be guaranteed the body is 100% rust free

So with the frame and suspension pieces all blasted clean and primed. They were tucked away into the corner of the shop. I kept an eye out for a body while the other parts collected dust. A ‘32 was gonna be out of the budget. And if I ever do get my hands on one it’ll be all original FoMoCo parts putting it together. So I was mostly looking for a ‘30-‘31 Coupe body.

Until this gl*** ‘32 3 window popped up for sale. The guy had it mocked up on a ch***is with a few good photos. It just looked right. Not still convinced the fibergl*** body was for me though. It went into the corner while I came up with a plan.

    IMG_1580.jpeg

That planning stage lasted all of about two days when I realized I could hide the ugly firewall, a SBC and *gasp* A/C under a hood. And a steel hood might even make it look less fibergl***. And they even look pretty good setup like that…

    IMG_1529.jpeg

    IMG_1532.jpeg

Now the search was on for a hood. Welp, that didn’t take long when a couple days later this one popped up for sale and real close by.

    IMG_1572.jpeg

Figurin’ it was now clearly meant to be. Time to drag the parts out of the various corners and start the mock up.

First up on the fabrication list, getting the rear frame horns back on. I’ve mounted a lot of hot rod gas tanks in the trunk. So the idea of an easy stock style mount and more trunk space was a selling point on going with a ‘32 body.

Fabbed up a spreader bar and tag mount to help hold the horns in the right place while fitting it all up. Flange nuts welded into the spreader bar for the tag mount. Spreader bar will get a bunch of speed holes drilled in it, and most likely chromed before final ***embly.

Since it will all be hidden under the hood, nothing fancy on the engine mounts. Just a tubular style crossmember mount I had laying on the shelf. Vega cross steer box went in after the engine was done. S10 T5 I’ll hook up an external slave cylinder for the clutch.

Just had the rear tacked in for mock up. Time to finish up the roller.

    IMG_4224.jpeg

Using a ‘40 front spring I cleaned up and pulled every other leaf out of. Lots of parts and pieces to hold in place and measure. So I made a fixture to hold the spring mount brackets at the right width, parallel, square etc. Have a couple more of these to setup in the near-ish future so it’ll come in handy.

With the spring on the rear. Ready to get it located in the frame.

I went to buy a set of ladder bars I’d decided on awhile back. But holy **** did they get expensive! At the time I thought “ I can’t build those for that”. Well, I guess the manufacturer reached the same conclusion. So, I’ll just make my own.

Bought the axle plates, 4 clevis, couple bushings for the end and some DOM tubing.

    IMG_4317.jpeg

Couple cuts, thread the tubes and weld them up. Then drill the end for bushings and weld them on…

    IMG_4318.jpeg

Just like the catalog but a lot less expensive.

    IMG_4320.jpeg

Then on to making the front mounts for ladder bars. Just some flat plate with bolt holes…

    IMG_4342.jpeg

    IMG_4343.jpeg

    IMG_4344.jpeg

With the rear in the right spot. Crossmember was up next. Heavy wall square tube and some plate cut up for spring clamps.

    IMG_4356.jpeg

    IMG_4247.jpeg

    IMG_4249.jpeg

    IMG_4358.jpeg

With all that looking like it’s gonna work out pretty good. Finished it up with some pre made lower shock mounts I had on the shelf and scratch made upper mounts…

    IMG_4688.jpeg

    IMG_4692.jpeg

With the ride height done, set the caster on the front end and welded in the front wishbone mounts. We got ourselves a roller.

I see your running into the same issue I encountered with that exact same frame. Ladder bar hitting cross bars. IMG_4989.jpeg IMG_4990.jpeg
