Not a car, but still super interesting. That is a deal if real.

Terrible pictures. Got a shot of both rear door panels facing the back of the front seat but no pics of the rear of the car that aren't cropped off.

That's a shame someone should get a slap for doing that to such a cool ride ,lol

@Stan Back I think it has to do with updating the quarters for the whole line, but still using the previous stampings for the wagon bits? Like @sixball mentioned. I've read a book on the Stude/Packard merger but don't have the YMM stuff memorized. It was a tough time for them both.
Even the 55 had a bit of a shelf for the bumper filler.

Ford killed Packard when they bought the Briggs body co. Packard never rebuilt their own body shop after the war, just bought from Briggs. When ford shut them off they bought Studebaker mainly for the West Bend body plant. By that time, both ships were sinking anyway.

Post-war allotments, all manufacturers relying on pre-war designs 46-48 but having to come out with new designs to compete by 49-50, rolling in advancements learned during the war.
This meant that a lot of companies could sell everything they had the manpower and materials to produce, but then it was extremely compe***ive during economic times that were challenging.

A lot of thinning and consolidation happened.

The spare is under the trapdoor in the back. I think they just had extra length in '57. Studebaker had some great designs and some not so great and they held on to some components for a long time. Other than some small changes front suspension was the same from about '52 through the Avanti.

Last gasp effort by Studebaker to “get with it” in 1958 was to add quad headlights.
The result was a sculpted fender patch that was, IMO; fugly.
First saw one of these many years ago in someone's garage. He was a proud owner…I had to keep my mouth shut.

From the '53 Loewe Coupes and through the Hawks that extended the line to the '64 Gran Turismo There were some good looking and fast cars, the '55 and Packard Hawks aside. The big brands just beat them out in the market. But fr a company that started with wagons & wheelbarrows they did pretty well.

I would love one of those 57-58 big Studebakers or Packards, it's the bizarre-ness that makes them great.

What amazes me is how Loewy designed the '53 models to be so attractive, while keeping them looking like a Studebaker.

It appears that he customized the 52, sectioned it and a gentlemans chop along with some other small changes.

Yep, a graceful transition. They didn’t always do that….

I remember thinking a '59 Chevy was one of the ugliest cars I had ever seen. Now I like them, especially the El Camino.

Years ago my friend's Dad picked up a base model 1959 Ford fordoor. He later did a two-tone red and white paint job on it and named it Robert Red Ford. It was a neat car; mostly I remember the vacuum wipers (that stopped when he stood on the gas - we used to laugh about that!) and the three-on-the-tree. Good times riding around in that one!

This one really is a good deal, it's already marked "Pending" after 2 days. I personally don't care for all of the accessories hung off of it, but those pieces are also pretty valuable on the resale market, you could buy this car, sell off all of the tacked-on stuff, and have the car close to free. That's the kind of deal I like. The interior is beautiful.

Yes, it shows 2 cars, one is a bit crashed on the right front, the other has no gl***, "says bring a trailer." Between the two, you might make a decent ride, no interior pics though.

^^^^ That’s the exact same condition my ‘47 short door coupe was in when I dragged it home in 1967. Same color, flat tires, had to have a friend with a pickup take me back to get the hood. It was a service car for a local Shell station that was left for dead out back. Paid $40 for it. I buffed up the stock paint and primered the rusty spots. I was way ahead of the times! lol
