The 46- 48 Plymouth and Desoto business coupes (shared bodies) had a shorter rear deck then the Dodge or Chrysler (shared bodies) version. The Plymouth and Desoto bodies got the long deck lid for the "late" body versions. All the long deck lid versions were 3 window coupes.

Was thinking the long rear decks are the business coupe with the turret top & no backseat.

The 46-48 Plymouth had 2 "coupe" bodies (both carried over from the 1942 per WW2 War models), a 3 p***enger business coupe with a smooth transition between the trunk lid and the roof, and a 6 p***enger club coupe that had a higher rear roof line that had a distinct sharp body line between the trunk and the roof, with a rear bench seat. Both of these Plymouth coupes were 5 window bodies. Unlike Dodge, Desoto, or Chrysler, Plymouth had no turret roof long trunk coupes in 1946 through early 1949.

According to the Standard Catalog of Chrysler, 1924-1990, Plymouth division new body introduction was delayed for a 49 Plymouth until March of 1949. The two earlier 48 Plymouth coupe bodies were offered as a first series 49 model year before March. The new coupe options offered after March were the second series 49 model year, and were a business coupe (3 window, 3 p***enger long rear deck) and a fast back 6 p***enger sedan (no longer called a coupe).

According to the Standard Catalog of Chrysler, 1924-1990. A 46-48 Desoto could be had in either a 6 p***enger, 5 window coupe (Plymouth body) with the shorter deck lid, or a 3 p***enger, 3 window (Dodge body) with the long deck lid. In 49, only the 3 p***enger, 3 window long rear deck was available.

Very nice. How did you lower those?
I plan on relocating spring pocket in front and blocks in rear. Maybe forget to put all the leaves in right?
I just got it running so dropping is next?

Just finished building this '40 Plymouth Deluxe 2dr sedan for a friend. Was a fun build. installed a 331 hemi. 200R4 ******, late model Mustang rear, Mustang front and rear seats, custom center console. Converted windows to power by adapting 90s GM motors to the factory risers. Adapted '40 steering wheel to GM tilt column.

Just to keep things in perspective, this first picture is a 3 p***enger 1948 Plymouth business coupe on the way to my house. This body was in very bad condition, missing neatly all the bottom 6" of the body. 48 coupe 015.jpg
This 2nd picture of the same body, dimensional the same (except the wheel openings were opened up to match the 15" tires & wheels). This was my first reconditioning of a street version as the old dirt track car, a fitting use of this body. P1010121.JPG
This last picture is how it looks now, though the current paint is a bit more faded then in this picture. 100_0907.JPG
