I have become the newest caretaker of the Candy and Chrome 1940 Ford coupe. I saw the car at the "Roc" and was captivated by it. It was built in the early 1960's and was featured in Pat Ganahl's book "Lost Hot Rods". The name was given in honor of the candy apple red finish and an abundance of chrome. An abundance of chrome is a total understatement it has chrome garnish moldings, steering column, suspension, rear end housing, firewall, inner fender panels, engine accessories, and (drum roll please) the entire ch***is is chromed. It is powered by an enhanced 303 ci Olds backed by a three on the tree and a banjo. And yes I intend to drive it often but obviously will not change the appearance in anyway. The candy lacquer has crazed and faded to a satin appearance nut the chrome is still in excellent almost new condition. 20251120_123505.jpg 20251120_123526.jpg 20251120_123601.jpg 20251120_123539.jpg 20251119_113707.jpg 20251120_124156.jpg 20251120_124215.jpg 20251120_124150.jpg 20251120_123733.jpg 20251120_123724.jpg

It sits “modern low”. Are the new parts chromed too?

;)So, the motorcycle has to go to make room for the '40? It must have been a tuff decision. All kidding aside, you've become the caretaker of a beautiful car.

I've got a soft spot in my heart for 40 coupes, but this one is drop-dead perfect!
Seriously, did the original builder own a chrome shop? If not, he had money to burn.
Would be fun to kit bash a 1/25 AMT replica of it...
