It was a decent day weather wise today, so I took out the 57 to get its yearly inspection. In New York State the historical vehicles only get a safety inspection. I live in N***au County which is a lot more old car friendly than New York City is. I also got an out of topic Muscle Car done too. Are there any states that do not have inspections for the older cars? I like to get my inspections done now so they are ready when the spring comes.
Out of the rustbelt, inspections aren't really so necessary. Nothing at all where I live, for new or old cars. The chart lays it out well.
With historic plates on a vehicle in Missouri no inspection or tag renewal is ever necessary. The downside is that you're only supposed to use the car 1000 miles a year for pleasure use, but that doesn't apply to going to shows or using it for educational purposes. I think that's how it's worded. You're supposed to keep a log book for personal use, but I've only heard of one person ever having an issue over that. Lynn
Idaho tried safety inspections from '68 until the mid -'70s. Most people figured out that sending $2 to your favorite inspection station with your registration would get your windshield sticker by return mail in a few days.
No safety inspections in Iowa currently......although my 38 Chevy still has the inspection sticker in the windshield from the late 70's?? when they did have inspections.
‘They haven’t salted the roads on Long Island yet? Here in Upstate NY We go about an 1” of snow on Monday (09-17) and the plows/salt trucks were out in force! The state roads look like Bonneville!
No inspection for antique (25 years or older) in Maine when you run the antique plates. I think we're limited to 2000 (maybe 3000) miles per year. I got pulled over a few years ago by a young police officer for not displaying an inspection sticker; he didn't know that, had to have the dispatcher explain it to him.
In Texas, before this year, no inspections were required for antique licensed vehicle. Now all inspections have been terminated except for emissions inspections in the big cities.
Never had any inspections done in CA or CO aside from initially having the VIN verified to obtain a ***le.
I think most of us here look at our cars and do at least a casual inspection on our cars. We will look to see why our brake fluid level is going down, ect. We do not have inspection on Antique plated vehicles in PA. (25 years and, older limited use), I do know a fair number of people that drive vehicles with these plates on them, as daily drivers, so they do not have to get them inspected. They complain inspections are rip-offs and just look for things wrong that do not need to be fixed, exc. Those are the cars that I worry about.
Early 70s I worked with a carpenter crew in Denver. We all had Chevy pickups and could borrow nice tires/wheels from each other for the inspection.
The only issues I have heard of with guys with antique or cl***is plates is being busted for blantant missuse. = Driving it as your daily driver and driving it to work every day and parking it out front for everyone who drives by to see including local cops. There are about a hundred guys in the county I live in who should be busted because they just flat cheat because the car/truck is old enough to have cl***ic plates if it was their hobby car that only got used as the rules say but they drive it every place except cars and coffee or car shows and most have never anttended a car show .The guy who only takes his car with cl***ic plates to work on the day he leaves from work and goes straight to cruise night and the cop who saw it at work saw it at cruise night, cool .
