I hope you have better luck getting it painted. Seems like I always have one in paint job jail.

I went to the painter today to check on the coupe. I wouldn't say it's in paint jail, more like on paint probation. It's a two man shop and there are customer cars there that were being worked on before my car got in, so I have to be patient.
They did go over the body and fine tuned the door and trunk gaps. They also did some minor work on a lower corner of the windshield opening so that the frame would fit better.
The body got a first coat of high build primer and guide coat on it and this will be sanded soon to find out if there are any high or low spots to address.
He did manage to paint some of the smaller parts and gave them to me to take home so that they don't take up room in the shop.
Here are some photos of the coupe as it is now. Gonna take a while, but it is in good hands.

There are numerous opinions on chopping a '32 3W. My personal choice is how you have done the chop, straight down with a roof spacer. That's how we did mine. I think that the laid back windshield distracts from the design of the body, but that's just me. Your 3W will be beautiful when finished.

Thanks Fogger. I chose a straight chop because I like that look too, and also being that this was my first attempt at a top chop it was easier than a laid back chop.
I think a straight chop looks best with a moderate chop like the 2 1/2" drop on my coupe. A heavy chop or a wedge chop look good with a laid back windshield.
I will admit that doing a laid back chop is very intimidating and complicated. I don't fully understand how you would go about planning where the cuts need to be to make the finished job look right.

The black 3 window in my avatar is a 2.5 inch chop with stretched roof. It's been that way since I bought the body in 1980 in Iowa City with the chop just tacked together. Chop was started by Paul Beck, he lives in Michigan.

Hello everyone, bringing this thread back to life. The coupe has been at the painters since Jan. 2024. Getting close to being finished and I did get the engine block and ch***is back a little while ago and was able to ***emble the motor and put all the running gear on the ch***is and make it a roller. Here are some photos of the motor during ***embly.

The block is painted the same color as the ch***is and body, but I chose to paint the heads with a high heat silver caliper paint that I cured at 200 deg. in an oven. I did this to hopefully keep the paint on the center exhaust ports from burning away. I see this on most of the early Olds motors I have seen at car shows, and I new that the red color paint would most likely burn off and leave an ugly black mark on the exhaust ports.

Very nice details on the engine. Clever idea on the caliper paint.

I got the ch***is into a roller stage and added the exhaust and motor to get pictures of everything before it's covered up with the body. I'll take the motor out before it goes back to the painter He wants to paint the body while it's on the frame.

I liked the red you see on a lot of Jeep Grand Cherokees, it's called Red Velvet Pearl. I used that as a starting point for the painter to work with. He said that the color was a tri coat finish and he thought it would be better to go with a basecoat-clearcoat finish instead. I wanted a little darker red than the Jeep color, so the painter mixed up a custom color based on the Red Velvet Pearl that I liked.
