Technical Banger distributor question

This pic is from Life Magazine in 1945. The Banger has a V8 helmet distributor adapted to the 4 cyl. Anyone done this conversion or have info on this?

 

I’ve seen this picture many times and I’ve never noticed that.

Change / modify points cam by removing 4 lobs .
Modify a stock distributor
Add flange & a coupler,
Or make a lower with flange & coupler
