Dad had a lite blue 57 Super Tudor hdtp. That was a fun car. Some kind of vacuum thing on the carb would hold the throttle open after you hit about 90. Remember the time it got me. Ran that way for 15 plus miles.

I believe that in one of his stories Mr. Shepherd also stated that "There's nothing deader than a dead Buick".

My 56 Holiday 98 coupe. This is probably my favorite old car I've ever owned. 324 with a Jetaway, it is mostly all stock save for a Holley 4 barrel and Pertronix. This is the "go anywhere" car, check the gas, oil, and water and take a drive for hundreds of miles with complete confidence, and do so in comfort. It's sort of perfectly imperfect, a 30+ year old amateur restoration that looks great from 20 feet away but doesn't stop me from driving it anywhere. And I can fit all of my hockey gear in it.

I'm sure one of these days it will work its way to the top of que and get a full overhaul, but it's way too nice and functional to pull apart as it is. Great car

Also the 56 I'm building into a Nomad style wagon.

    '54 Deluxe 88 & a '56 Deluxe 88 - both 3 speed cars. '54 was free, '56 cost me a '50 Chev pickup with a big hole in the block. Oct 20, '19 #2 017.JPG Oct 20, '19 #2 036.JPG

This is how I remember seeing them. When I was a kid they were as popular as Willys and Fiats at Lions. I still want one.

The best of times, about 1960 ... in a town of about 20,000, there were at least 4 Holiday coupes, 2 converts, 2 coupes, a few 4drs, & a wagon that were "fixed up" .... the wagon got stripped & painted in '61, & is still in the owner's garage waiting to get rubbed out & re-***embly

It was a big thing in those days where I lived too! An early fifties Olds (or a Pontiac with an Olds swapped in), a bunch of carbs and no hood. The only extra we did was to run "frogs-mouth" scoops with the inside painted bright orange.

Oldsmobiles were so popular, guys were buying Pontiacs and running an Olds. If the Pontiac had a Hydramatic, it was almost a bolt-in.

Gene Adams and his record setting two door, Oldsmobile sedan.

    Hello,

Talk about a street driven modified sedan that was one of the fastest hot rods of its time period…
upload_2025-12-31_3-47-29.png My brother and I always saw this sedan in the local Drag News Weekly Paper. At the drags, it looked as if it just drove from Santa Monica to Lion’s Dragstrip, popped off the hubcaps and started racing. It fit the original concept of Gas Coupes and Sedans perfectly. The cl*** was made for hot rod folks to bring their street driven, daily drivers to the dragstrip to see what they can do with their hot rods.
    upload_2025-12-31_3-48-25.png
But, this Oldsmobile fastback sedan was special. Enough modifications to make it a top trophy winner in the Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl***.

Gene Adams is/was successful “Mr. Oldsmobile” leading up to the famous Albertson Oldsmobile FED race car.
    upload_2025-12-31_3-50-15.png

The famous Gene Adams Oldsmobile sedan that ruled the Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl***es was a trend setter with his fast sedan having a complete interior full of gauges and a direct line(s) going through the firewall to the motor. Easy shut off at an arm’s distance with the Moon Equipment hand pump and shut off valve.

    Then one month later:
    upload_2025-12-31_3-53-17.png January 1957
During this time period from the 1956-57 era, the battle of the local So Cal camshaft companies had started their advertising onslaught of “Our cams go faster, so here is proof” articles and adverti*****ts that most drag racers across the country would read. A little typing error or innuendos can be used for a lot of commotion to draw attention to the company’s products and sponsored racers. But Gene Adams and **** Harryman? Sheesh!!!

    upload_2025-12-31_3-54-42.png
1955 at the Santa Ana Dragstrip in So Cal had most of the West Coast early racers that were setting speed records in those cl***es. Gene Adams, Chuck Porter, etc. in the Overhead Valve Cl***es and the FH symbol was for Flathead cl***es.

Gene Adams as we all know had some of the fastest coupes and sedans in the Gas Coupe and Sedan Cl***es during the 1959-61 era. Chuck Porter had several builds and topped off the cl*** win at the 1958 Nationals in his yellow custom pickup truck. But, like everyone else at the time, we knew who they are because of the results and magazine coverage, who knew they were racing in the 1955 era.

One of the first drag races at the Los Angeles area Saugus Dragstrip by put on by the Drag Racers, Inc.

Another So Cal dragstrip with different cl***es in 1955 had some unusual names of the cl*** champions.

    Note:

A couple of years ago, I was given a Fastback Olds Sedan as a fun gift. It was a nice scale model and looked ok. But, I prepped it, gave it two coats of paint, a primer and a finishing dark blue paint to look like Gene Adams’ Oldsmobile fastback sedan. With a little white number window paint, white wall wheels, it began to look like the life size Gene Adams sedan. YRMV
