This has been on the cards ever since the car went together. The flathead I had in it was a $300 dodgey bros rebuild I did. it was going along fine until I decided it needed a helping hand in the name of a 4/71.

5 seconds of right foot pleasure on a wet road has now cost me $$$$. but I have been planing for this for about 2 years so not all is lost. I have been buying and putting parts away including the blower set up. so now its time to rock and roll.

I am changing a few things for the better and am going to spend my time on this one and do some detail work too.

this is the block as I picked it up from the machine shop on friday night.

this is it after I spent about 3 hours painting the internals, this is difficult to do so you dont get any where you shouldnt.

there were a few casualties along the way.

and this is the car its destine to motivate.

Ah, yes. Flathead. The only motor worthy to go in a real hot rod. Cool rebuild. I like the '32, but I prefer '29's myself.

I wish they'd sell that type of Wild Turkey beverage here in the State of Denial (Arizona).

Keep up posted on the rest of the build.

  4. I have spotted a major problem. If you re-paint the car another colour you'll have to strip down the engine & repaint the guts so that it all matches again.... :p

Whens the fire up planned for? Up and running this week?

  5. Great news man....I guess the old camshaft crackin the head of the machinist threat did the job huh Lmao !!

Veryt nice work !! Must have to swing by soon and scope out the progress.
    .0045 now ya hear !!

Keep the updates coming. Great car. I have generic SBC in my '32 roadster and a 59AB flathead in the corner. I'm trying to deside if after rebuilding the flatty it should go in the raodster or a '34 pickup project I am collecting parts for. Good luck!

  7. Your roadster is a thing of beauty flatoz...keep us posted on the build. Of course if you can do sound clips when you fire that bad boy it would be even better!

  14. Corey this has gotta be the best pic I have ever seen of your car, it looks fantastic here.

And just as a side note you and the rest of the FLATHEADS :D should make an apperance at the Ballarat Road Rodders show and shine the Sunday after Bendigo. It would be a great way to run in the new motor. I know you were going to talk Frank in to it but what about Devilrod, Psycho and the rest of the guys.

    Well,

a bit more progress today. not as much as I wanted to get done, but hey my time line has been blown out of the water by the machine shop so I will get it all done in the next two weeks.

I had hoped to make it to 'Bright Rod Run' which is on this weekend coming. even planned days off to give me the amount of time to get it done and then put a few miles on it around town before the trip ( its about 3.5 hours away) but as I dont have my rotating mass back it wont happen. I am hoping to get that back on wednesday ( tueday is a public holiday for a horse race)

anyway. a few mates called in so had a chat. but unmasked it and am pretty happy.

also sorted out the linkage for the carbs made this and polished it up, I'm not aiming on too much bling, going for the 'as cast look' but a bit o' shiney doesnt hurt.

    Corey,

Nice to see some shots of the new blingster you're building ;)

    Thanks for the fuel block

  17. Nice Flatoz. Nothing like fresh clean metal. You must be dying to fire that up.

I see you're another Sol sucker.

No, I'm not, but that's another story.

  18. Dude I saw those holes for lifter adjustment you drilled in the lifter bosses - they seem high in your pics.

The holes have to be almost at the base of the lifter bosses so that when the cam is on its base circle and that lifter is ready for adjustment, the allen wrench thru that lifter bore hole will line up with the hole in the body of the lifter.

When you slide the cam in - drop in a lifter and check it out before you go any further just to make sure mate.

    Just trying to help ?

    thanks all.

Rat, yes well... I got the machine shop to do that, will check it out. thought if I got them to do it, it might speed things up. How wrong one can be. By the way, you dont have my right angle drill adaptor??

binga, will work on them, I reckon that is a good idea. Rat said he will come up the others should too.

X38, yep, dont do domestic swill. pure headache material. sol is the cheap mans corona. a slice of lemon or lime and its party time...

Mark, didnt see you at johns on sunday? did you go sat?

Muttley thanks, its starting to get to where I want it to be, few more things post engine (QC and others) and I will be happy, if there is ever such a thing.

Ryan, thanks. I will put up more as I go along. have been planning this in my head for a few years now so its pretty exciting to finally get there.

AZAV8, the angry bird, is a thing of drinking beauty, pity you dont get the mixers, but at 8% they can make or break a night.

Corey, Our paths would have crossed, except you were a little busy talking as you walked. I was within 2 feet of you, but........ you know how it is....... too many people.... too little time.... and sooooooo many cars, with even the occassional hot rod there.

I was there on Sunday morning, straight from work.

  21. Cool Looking Flatmotor!

I've built a few blown ones before and will be putting a 4-71 blown one together this winter --- always fun. What are you going to be running for a cam? What size valves in the intake and exhaust? I always like to know what others are doing -- just to see what combinations seem to be working.

  22. Flatoz, I hope you check the place of manufacture on your off shore brews. I'd hate to think you ever drank imported local swill!

And BTW my fave is Carbine Stout, and not because it's melbourne cup day!

Now X38, I dont profess to be a beer snob, but well... I guess I am.

and yes I know what your talking about. the likes of 'kirin' or 'heineken' or even one of my favs 'becks' are sometimes brewed here in OZ under guidance. SO, you need to check the side of the box. with the becks, you need to buy the plastic wraped 2x12 packs to get the proper imported german stuff.

my fav beer. probably GAMBRINUS just did a special trip to czech rep. just to buy a $6 bottle opener that I failed to purchase in 2000

    now back to regular programming...

Looking awesome Corey. I didn't see you sunday either, I hope you had your head covered, I got a bit burnt myself. Id love to see the build up in person, if only I were closer.

  26. If you stay off them angry birds the motor assembly will go much quicker and we will get to see the results sooner.

Can't say that I've had Wild Turley Cola. Sounds like a good compliment to flathead building.

Looking at the pic of your car on my wallpaper everyday keeps me saving my dimes (otherwise I would just blow it on stuff for the other projects). I will have a '32 like yours some day if I gotta live in it to get there.

Please keep the build up pics/narration going, it is really inspiring to a lot of us out here I am sure.

    Great car.
