I was measuring that today, there's 0.30" between the bores.. I have my concerns but will give it a try, worse case is that I have to get them lined and go down in size, but it's a low compression motor so I might get away with it.

I have three blocks, all have a lot more wear in number one bore behind the water pump, presumable from that area being colder.

My retired machinist mate reckons that 3.870" for F**d pistons would clean them up, and a good gasket width between bores can be retained by moving number one and four outwards and number two and three inwards just a tad. Quite a common trick in days gone by apparently. The offset to each rod would be too small to have any effect.

I mentioned this in Andys thread but was too late for him to tell his machinist.

You might have better results by lapping the head on and doing away with a gasket altogether.

That would have been a better way to go, with the aA rods being narrower on the journals theres room down there too! I mis read the notes 0.135” between bores .. still carefully lapped head and sticky aluminium paint might do the job!

Checked out your builds. They're all pretty interesting. Still working on them?

  7. Hi Steve, Nice to see you're still doing it. The last time we communicated was after you moved from Achnasheen, and we moved to Boston. Since then we've built a garage and I (sort of) finished my truck. new7.jpg Charlie (ex of Skye) Good luck mate.

    Hi Charlie,

Good to hear from you, love the truck 8) Yeah time moves on at pace, the list of jobs never gets smaller , the list of big ideas is the same. I need to trim down the projects to what I can manage but as we all know, that ain't easy!!
