There are many things to be thankful for on this day, a**** them being the friendships developed in the years of hot rodding. But, hopefully we remain thankful for that all year long. Best to all of you.
Hello, Thanksgiving has had many different versions for us. When our families all gathered for one huge family dinner, there were 27 people floating around our house. The table was large to huge, when we added an additional card table that fit under a super large table cover. Now, everyone fit. That was the most we ever had at our small house. Since everyone else in the family had the huge extended family dinner, it was our turn. One last time… After that gathering, that was it for the future. Family obligations, one and done… the next year, my wife and I flew to Mainland Mexico for a week long vacation in the warm sun and blue waters off of the coast. We got to sail Hobie Cats, go for an ATV ride on an empty stretch of beach sand and water, and just relax around the resort pool. Dinner at our favorite old town restaurant, shaky rides to and from other restaurants down the coastline cliff on the beaches and just plain old fun by ourselves. No more surf adventures as they were now getting too crowded. My parents were now into restaurant dinners to allow my mom a vacation from the kitchen cooking/preparing all day for a couple hour meal. Our son had his family gatherings with his extended family and all was good… so, off we went. Jnaki Several of the great moments of our memory book were as follows: Creative Thanksgiving: The great Thanksgiving Smoker Build and cooking for our Baja Mexico surf adventure for a week when we were teenagers. So, what do two ex-hot rod/drag race teenagers do for inventions after the hot rod phase was in recovery? Why, make a turkey smoker for our backyard. My brother came up with a great idea for the next turkey smoking dinner. He bought a metal milk can at the local surplus yard. It had to have a custom painted set of flames for the build. An old backyard custom made smoker cooker. Smoked turkey for the full 6 day surf adventure. The result was the hit of the 6 day vacation and we vowed to do it again the following year. Smoked turkey for breakfast, lunch and dinner until it ran out on day 4. The oddest memory: Later on my wife and I were staying in a coastal Mexico resort and decided to come home early as we needed to see our own families after the big time dinner festivities. We asked when was a good time to fly home. The airline company answer was Thanksgiving Night. So, we flew home from Mexico on Thanksgiving Night with two other couples we did not know, from the Los Angeles Area. It was virtually an empty plane, but it had to be flown, since it was on the flight list for that night. The stewardess told us that the meals were going to be free. Yea! But, that since it was Thanksgiving, the turkey was gone and in its place, fresh chicken sandwiches and all of the accessories in the kitchen cabin. So, we all looked at each other and had a great meal heading home to LAX. Laughing all the way… Free meals, drinks, and snacks… (and room to stretch out…) what more could one ask of an airline? YRMV

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone that enjoys the educational and entertaining threads on the HAMB like I do.
