Hello! I have been reading the HAMB forever - picking up info on my various projects and I figure that it was time that I stepped out of the shadows and did a little posting. My old car interests are expansive - British sports cars, solid axle Corvettes, 80's turbo cars - but more germane to the HAMB, I started with Model A Fords and I've gotten interested in early fibergl*** cars that were offered by small-time manufacturers before the Corvette came out. These are not kit cars, as there was no "kit", typically just a single page of instructions which came with the body. These cars were typically built using late 40's-early 50's American cars, for the mechanical underpinnings, often significantly modified. My Lancer is going on a 1951 Studebaker ch***is, the Victress Coupe is on a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker, and the Victress roadster is a Frankenstein consisting of a DeSoto Hemi through a custom adaptor to a LaSalle transmission and then to a Ford F1 rear end, in a 1947 Plymouth frame. The newly-acquired Meteor (not Mercury) sits on a 40's Ford frame that has been Z'ed, with a shortened torque tube and a bunch of non-Ford parts that I am still struggling to ID. The Forgotten Fibergl***/Undiscovered Cl***ics website caters to the history of these cars and the custom bodies, but not to the mechanical details needed to restore them. I will let the HAMB powers-that-be decide if these projects fall within the scope of interest for the other members. Hopefully they will - I have a lot of research and restoration to do. Here are pictures of the cars. It is clear that none are ready for the road, but work is progressing.
Thanks, Phil! I posted a parts ID question in the Technical section and got an answer very shortly thereafter. I like how this board works!
Welcome to the HAMB Barry, A great bunch of guys with a wealth of knowledge here! If you don't mind me asking...What part of Ohio? I am in New London Twp, just southeast of Summit Motorsport Park (Norwalk Raceway Park to us who raced there from years back) God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
Hi Bill! My apologies - I missed this when you posted. I am just north of Columbus Ohio. I make frequent trips up east of Cleveland to visit my 95-year-old dad so you woudn't be TOO far out of the way...
