Hey Folks! I’ve got a frozen 8BA in my ‘49 and am looking for help getting it rebuilt. Did my best with using search without much luck. Does anyone have any recommendations near SJ, CA for a decent builder? Thanks!
Considering that these once ubiquitous engines are now anything but, I would look for a flathead expert/spe******t who has the tribal knowledge and parts connections and ship it wherever. If it happened to be nearby, great, but location would be a low priority. Just my 2 cents.
333 miles from SJ to H&H in La Crescenta, CA. Reading their price list for services, I don't think you're going to get a better deal. Drive it down overnight, drop it off and head home. https://handhflatheads.com/
You might try Tim McMaster in the Fresno area. He's more of a Y Block guy but IIRC he also does flatheads. @mctim64 here on the HAMB My guess is that you'll have to get the engine unstuck before anyone will look at it but I could be wrong. Y-Block Guy 200 E 6th St, Hanford, CA 93230 (559) 584-4487
I spent a few dollars at H&H, if you want it done right, follow suit. They know how to build flatheads and how to tweak the horses out them.
Thanks, guys. Just looking to get back on the road right now, so that’s part of the reason I’m trying to keep it local.
Another thought. Maybe Joey @J.Ukrop would have a suggestion? San Francisco isn't all that far from San Jose and I'm sure he knows the way
