Good morning Guys. I just purchased what I was told is a 1929 Model A Roadster Pickup. Needs A lot of Love but one of the books I have tells me that this model did not have door handles until 1930 so I really need help making sure that I order the right year parts. See Photos many thanks Tom Gormley i.e. Mercuryguy on this site

    Liberated this from Ford Barn:

"all open pickups 28-29 did not have outside door handles.
roadsters and phaetons did not have outside door handles until Oct/Nov 1928.
The Restoration Guide/ Judging Standards are so valuable...all vendors and both MAFCA and MARC sell this book for $30. You might consider buying a copy...lots of information in this manual."

Maybe someone added Roadster doors at some point? Or simply added handles. Either way, it's a '28/9.

  6. 30 -31 steering wheel, though. Go with the flow. Engine looks somewhat taken care of. Is it bound up or free? You're about to have a lifetime of fun. Nothing like the rhythmic tick-a-tick-a of a Model A engine at idle.

Don't go by the steering wheel, as the column could have been changed.
From March of 1928 until the end of 1928, the emergency brake lever was located in front of the shift lever as your car has, BUT, that's the ch***is. From mid 1928 until Sept. 1929 there was a date code stamped into the lower edge on the drivers side of the firewall side of the gas tank, if it's not too rusty you might be able to read it. Also a later body could have been put on an earlier ch***is. I would guess you have an ***embly of Model A parts ***embled to fabricate a car.

The 28-29 closed cabs were built into the 1930 model year. Those later had the 30 style fuel caps a**** other changes. Don’t know if the roadster pickup continued the same way.
