I’ve got a question about my trunk lid hopefully someone can help with. I’ve used an Austin Healey handle a bezel, which I simply put where I thought it looked right, no latch. I’d like now to be able to lock the trunk when we’re out and about, and use a Ford latch and striker. Before I buy them, I’d like to know the measurement from the center of the square shaft to the outer edge of the lid. I have 1”, which I suspect is closer than originally placed. Anyone wanna measure theirs for me? Thanks!
I used that same handle on the 34, but mine is just there as a handle to save the paint when opening and closing. I have a remote lever (cable) that opens the trunk.
Didn't you post this question previously? Nice looking handle. Do I understand that the trunk lid is currently held closed by its weight? Is it possible to fabricate a flat hook that catches in a new slot in the lower trunk frame?
You could use one of these in current trunk location hole, still would need a way to create the hold down. https://www.yogisinc.com/exterior-components/trunk-handles/direct-fit-trunk-handles/
Did I? Could be, last winter, then we left the car here in Sarasota, so, out of sight, out of mind. It still would be nice lock it up.
Nope, I have much better looking handle with the Austin Healey part, I want to know if a Ford latch will work with the position it’s in.
Here's info contributed to the prior thread https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/model-a-trunk-latch.1330334/
Anyone wanna measure theirs for me? Thanks! ——- I get back to you in June, waters a little cold this time of year.
Well, lapse in memory aside, I think I’ve figured this out. By mounting a stock latch on the inside of the trunk, on the inner panel, bridging the indent, I can mount the striker wherever it needs to be on brace between the body panel and trunk floor. The latch and striker are on the way, and happily the Austin Healey handle has a long enough shaft to work.
