Just got this project. Gonna redesign that abominable dash, do a LOT of detail work, stop the rust but keep the patina, and maybe go with chrome trim rings and lug nuts on black rims. Just a fun driver.

A small set back on my trim work, lol. I could have glued the visors together ( quite the hack way ) or get them sewn together ( seems like that would be best ) So i went by the first trim shop, he did not want to sew through 2 pieces of cardboard. On to the second shop they are old and always closed, yep they were closed. Now to the third, he attemped it but ruined the one he tried to sew and it now needs to be recovered ( I have more fabric , so not a big deal ) I did learn what the problem is. The plastic on the inside of the cover has a ridge around the edge that needs to be ground down or cut off, so I stopped by a fourth shop and he knew what he was looking at and yes you have to remove that tall lip so the foot of the sewing machine will sit flat on the fabric. So I took both visor back apart , recovered the one , ground the edges down flush and ready to go back to the forth guy to get them stiched up. Maybe this will save someone some work. Don’t have to rake them now. The snowblower can deal with them.

  12. I went Ice Fishing out back yesterday & hooked me a Marlin! Reeled him up & put him inside where it is nice & warm.:p

Also spent the last few days cleaning up the shop & rearranging/covering cars. So nice to be home & able to work in the shop, I have been able to finish multiple small projects this week that I was only able to look at while keeping the trucks & trailers maintained since last January.

Next are MAJOR projects starting Monday!

    God Bless

  17. Collecting parts for this one. Pulled the tanks and fenders in 2020 and sent them to the painters just before Covid came around, this time a color change to Harley color Birch White. Painters being painters I didn’t get them back for two years. Compound that with life in general, adult kids, grandkids, unexpected health problems, it got pushed off to the side.

I was going to change the fenders over and use a Fat Boy fender on the front and a Superglide on the rear but decided to go back to the FL full fenders so those are at the painters, this time he said three weeks.

Next I need to shop for a propane radiant heater, too cold in the garage. FFE19C59-2457-47E3-9046-CFC3D3BEC753.jpeg

    Hey @lumpy 63 ,

Are you happy with that "Run Stand"? Any comments or additions you wish it had? My Dad built a very elementary one years ago without gauges or anything else other than a radiator, so thinking about buying one for the shop. Saw one built off a Summit rolling engine cart for around $750.00, but to me it looked Mickey Mouse!

Bill, those are a kinda rare fish. I like the 65s better but 66 are neat too! I have no idea what the AMC market is like but I like the fix and drive idea. Look forward to any thread you do on it.

Cool bike. Reminds me of a 75 FLH I rode about 30 years ago. I have a 54 FL I need to get going this winter.

  22. Denny,

That is one of the places where you & I differ & that is what is great about our hobby!!!

I love the stacked headlight cars & that is why I sold my red 66 Marlin. A stacked headlight Fastback Marlin was always on my long & Unrealistic Bucket List:p

    Thank You Lumpy!

That is what I wanted to hear from someone who actually uses a product I am seriously looking at purchasing.

    God Bless

  23. Bought that one in 1998. It’s pretty mild, Andrews cam, solid lifters, single fire ignition, Keihin CV carburetor from a 98 Softail. This time around besides the paint it’s getting LED lighting and a new pair of rear shocks.
I don’t ride as much as I used to but won’t give it up

It’s garage mate is a 2002 FLHTPI ex Wayne County Sheriff motor. 88CID, Stage 1 tune, upgraded cam tensioner kit from Harley, Progressive Suspension front and rear along with the engine stabilizer to tie it to the frame more securely. LED lighting all around. Michelin Commander II’s for tires.

  26. It’s a Biltwell, for a Sportster. I bought it about twenty years ago at a Harley dealership clearance sale. I just looked at the Biltwell site and they no longer offer it.
