I’d like to find another year of decent health so I can still be a good influence on my 14 year old grandson. He’s lived with me since he was just about two, I potty trained him taught him his ABCs by singing them to him at nap time, how to ride a bike and fish at three although he liked throwing rocks better. He learned how to hit and throw a ball get good grades in school and swear like the devil when he is playing his game with his friends ( he didn’t get that from me ). I will be 70 when he graduates from high school and I hope I’m able to be there so I’ll hope for one more year because I don’t want to be greedy. IMG_0607.jpeg

My Christmas wish is that I receive the wisdom to learn how to make better use of what ever time I have left!
When I retired in 2018, I got off the "needy" train, and finished up my existing projects quickly.
Over the years, I was so caught up in building my empire, I missed a lot of real life things along the way. I can see that clearly now. Its not regret, I can't turn back the clock and do some things differently then I did. I am learning to do things differently now, but I still have a long way to go. I need more wisdom so I can make use of the time I have left, so I can continue to improve the life course I'm currently on.
I guess I have reached a point in my life where reflection on my past has opened my eyes to the things I should have done differently.

  4. Give me a January thaw that provides about a week of weather warm enough to pull the leaky AOD transmission on my '29AA and replace the snout seal. Oh, and the continued good health to do it, okay Santa? The rest I can take care of myself. Oh, and if you're generous, Santa, keep my OTDD going for a few more months so I can get to my part-time job, the grocery and auto parts stores.

Shorten up those jack stands and you'll have a lot more headroom, or if you're single and there's a room directly above your garage, take out the floor and put in a lift. A word of warning; If you're married, you might want to run that one past your wife first;).

Maybe you should look at post #32. You want a bigger shop, @Pist-n-Broke wants to get his truck painted. You move out of SoCal and rent out part of his hu****ous shop; he gets the money to paint. Sounds like a match made in Heaven;). A couple of shots of good Scotch and I can come up with answers to anyone's problems:). You can thank me later.

Ok. To be clear, this was not my idea. My wife decided that my gas pump would look cute in her kitchen. So, with a little ***istance from @Kim Strobeck and my daughters beau we moved it into the house.

She added a snowman “petroleum transfer engineer” to the display and put red cloth over the white lights that illuminate the dials

IMG_8296.jpeg I was not on board but as per fricken usual, it works. My wife is a damn Christmas elf.

Not because it is/was red, but a new 1965 Red El Camino would be fine, thank you… It was the car that led to the rest of our lives and started the future with more adventures in life. The El Camino was our first modern car with plenty of power, but not drag racing power.

    Hello,

I can vividly remember the salesman’s face when he asked me what I wanted on my new order of a 65 El Camino. I told him I wanted the new 396 motor, a 4 speed transmission, Positraction and a set of standard bucket seats. He looked at me like I was from outer space. A what? So, i said it again...

Then he proceeded to tell me that although I wanted a 65 El Camino and yes, it was a Chevelle model, he could not order a 396/4 speed/bucket seat option that was a top seller in the Malibu Chevelle two door model. He had no answer for the choice. Although in the parts counter shop next door, they were readily available.

So, out of the choices, I was able to get Positraction, a new 327 motor, a bench seat, and an automatic transmission. Instead of waiting for the New El Camino, the Cormier Chevrolet sales guy said he had one on the lot.

It was one out of 4 other choices, but that new Red El Camino was one of the best driving cars I had ever owned or driven up to the end of ownership. I had put on 120k miles before anything was wrong with the motor. (a squeaky water pump and new thermostat) and we sold it at 125k miles, later. A few sets of tires, no leaks on the rear air shocks and miles of fun road trips up/down the Westcoast, California coastline from Baja Mexico to San Francisco and points North.

So, it was a solid performer. But in the small two car garage, it would be very useful if a red 65 El Camino could be sitting there with a 396 or similar big motor, a 4 speed, and a set of nice adjustable bucket seats.

The following year away from home upon arrival back in Long Beach from college, our desert motorcycle racing era started. The friend who once owned the big Oldsmobile motor in a 5 window 34 Ford Coupe was finishing up his college years and now was into desert motorcycle racing with a new car for his own activities. A 66 El Camino with a 396 motor, 4 speed, Positraction rear gears, and A/C. A what?

Driving that powerful 66 El Camino was wonderful. It was everything I wanted a year earlier, but somehow, the Detroit Factory decided to allow the 66 models to have the complete Chevelle motor, trans, interior for the El Camino. Our desert racing took on a new meaning and there was power to go with the El Camino.

After slogging around the desert grounds for most of the morning/afternoon, coming home in A/C and a more powerful motor was wonderful way to relax for the long drive from the So Cal deserts. But, in reality, I liked the 65 styling better than the new 66 model. So, that would be the item under the tree... or actually, sitting in the small two car garage.

It would be used as a daily driver since we need the back area for garden supplies, large plants and other building materials. Moving a new couch for our granddaughter would be simple as sliding into the back open bed area. The comfort of the adjustable bucket seats for my wife and me would go a long way if and when we took it on our long road trip vacations… No, to drives below the border, but, yes, back up the coast to Big Sur and beyond. … YRMV
