  1. The 319 OD pops up sometimes fairly reasonable around here. Non-sync 1st
I’ve got a Saginaw OD I’m saving for a future project.
A 319 would be a direct bolt in
I’ve got one from a tri5 the owner didn’t use the governor and worked the solenoid with a switch on the shifter

the OD is .70 I think. Could use a low rear gear with that

    Cool stuff
A six with some goodies and a three on the floor sounds fun.
I had an OT 4wd with an in-line six (stock) and a three on the floor 3.50ish gear I think probably 500-1000 lbs more than your 56. Loved it, not a hot rod but it did ok, never cruised over 65 much but I did drive it all over the western US. I’m sure your engine will make more than the 110 hp I had.

The old ‘56 3 spd/OD works like the later all synchro trans when the OD is enabled. But if you have the later trans available cheap I would try that. Especially if you can get your hands on an OD version.

  4. Can use the current shifter on a 3 speed OD

  6. A factory over drive would be cool as cool can be .

im planning on daily driving this thing so hwy speeds are important

I don’t need dragster launches , but a nice hwy cruising speed is essential

@anthony myrick would you be willing to part with that od ? Shipping will probably be a biznich

The ‘55-‘57 style 3 spd/OD trans is fine for what you say you want to do. They just seem to have fragile gears, especially when speed shifted by sloppy column shift linkage. Be nice to it and it’ll last forever.

The 1956 will need a bell housing with side mounts, to work with front crossmember engine mounts.

Or convert to side engine mounts and a rear trans crossmember.

Not real sure how you mean that.
But don't forget the size of the torque curve in a six pack.;)

    Pleasantly surprised
Pulled the vc and side cover off this morning looks pretty good inside

gonna tear it apart , at the very least all new gaskets and lap the valves .

    Will keep you posted

it was pretty clean inside , mains and rod bearings are a bit scuffed , oil REEKED of gasoline !
But oil pan and water jackets are clean .
Spoke to my machine shop about rings , bearings . And having them get the block milled and also the head . Getting the friends and family discount . That always helps !! :D
Going to stuff the T5 I have behind it and be done with it .

Most likely going to sell the 383 , I’ve always had a soft spot for in liners , this is going from a budget built to something else .

anyone have a tri carb intake they wanna get rid of ?
Anywaze, gonna keep ya all posted once I get it back from the machine shop and put it all back together .

    Cleanup on aisle three!
    Should have read..........
The pros........it has three pedals and a stick shift.
The cons........it has a three speed and doesn't have a four speed!
Sorry, just can't let it go.

This one would make Rice Krispies sound tame. IMG_4189.jpeg

  25. So dropped the engine off earlier this week
Crank needs to be ground , bores cleaned up nice , pistons are good , valves and seats are pounded out of it

so head job , new bearings and rings along with machine work .

gonna be a good engine when I get it back in a couple weeks .

I have a question. , I gave a few stock intakes kicking around , can I cut out the center section of 3 intakes weld up the holes on the sides and run 3 carbs ?

I know from back in my euro car days multi carb set up that are not connected are more easily tunable and run better .

woukd be a pretty easy way to get a cool intake .

So you’re saying 3 individual intakes?

    Something like the first pic

or if the carb flanges and flange to the head are easy enough to make or get I could go that route also
