    Never did find it.

I ended up DNF, and David got second place. I ran out of gas 15 miles from the finish, not enough time to go get gas, rode with David in his car to the awards with 5 minutes to spare. Pretty wild ending! But we had a lot of fun.

Now to drive home. Staying in San Antonio for the night.

This was the ride to the end, in David's car. With the glow from his Nixie tube dash.

    We look pretty worn out.

    Dang!
Well, I think that while the compe***ion is part of it, you also get enjoyment from the doing.
Is your brother going to rub it in all the way home?

    No.

It's a LeMons thing, failing is the goal :)

PXL_20251207_220743147.jpg When we were about 70 miles from the end, the fuel filter clogged up, and I had to replace it. So when it ran out of gas, since my gas gage doesn't work right, I suspected other things were wrong. It's just how it works, driving ****py old cars. Your brain gets fried and you can't think straight.

Made it home before 10pm, not bad for a 850 mile drive in a 66 year old ****py car! Turns out they'll do 70 all day on the freeway if you want to, just keep the tach at 4000 rpm. Just like you do in a Miata.

That was quick, it left my yard at about 4:30 PM yesterday. If I kept this Volvo, the insurance settlement check would be about $3,410 smaller. Supposedly, the "check is in the mail."

Fortunately, a no-injury accident. I drove it home from the accident (about 78 miles). The unit-body is twisted to the driver side (low speed off-angle hit). I'm one of those 81 year old guys "whimpering" about thinning the herd ;). Actually, I was planning to keep this Volvo.

At my age, every tool from Harbor Freight is "Lifetime" ;).

EDIT: A quick shout-out to the Dairyland/Sentry insurance folks. Professional level service, kept me informed, and acted quickly when we got some necessary issues resolved. A sharp contrast to 20 or so years ago when my IH pickup was rear-ended. Geico would not pay my ambulance and ER bills. Offered me $75 for a 1971 IH 3/4 ton pickup. I had to take Geico Insurance to the AZ department of insurance to get any payment (Jerk the accident victim around until they give up.)

Sorry to hear your tribulations, but good you're okay.
With the obnoxious flooding of ads, Geico was already on my Do Not Touch list along with many others. Hearing they are dog poop further cements that opinion.
