1/2 yr update; had a bit of a heart attack, so slow for a bit, but almost back from that now. Still collecting the pieces for frame build at the pace budget allows. Master cylinder is new but front shock are old... Rear coil overs will work with rear cross member but not site appropriate. Getting closer to full front and rear suspension sets. Even got a junky 289 to rebuild. A thanks to ‘ Tim' for prompting me to post. (hope I’m not being presumptuous). Yes in 340HilbornDuster ’s thread. That Injected Tub! WOW!, Driving Around! WOW!
Hey there he is! Two roached out A tubs being saved and built at home and the same blue paint and the same island views I was having dejavu!
Nov 2025 I am determined to do some on this car this year, so... With the long Thanksgiving week end before me I bought some new electrodes. Flat ground, light V grooving, and cap welded those front tapers w/7018. After that 8 foot of bead to get warmed up I was off an going. Spring Notch .... The Kink ... Tab 'D'into Slot 'C'... Rear Taper ... Horn By this point even the 6011 beads were looking pretty good. Still burned thru a couple of times. I guess if your not on the verge of burning thru your not welding. Stick Welding is Traditional as well as Manly. Perimeter Frame! So far so Good, Xs nice, V-measures nice, parallels money. Only 1/8 of twist which I think I can improve upon with the floor chains an jack. Has the Speedway prefabbed Rear Crossmember. So I've copied there design with the rear part parallel, also 106.5 long. White paint spots so blind old man can see his pencil marks. Progress! Next Year - Roller Now I got to carry er back under porch so wifey can get to laundry machine and maybe take a better glory picture to post.
Hi Bathtub Bradah. I guess carrying "Wifey's Laundry Machine" under the porch is out of the question huh...? ... It'll get exponentially heavier from here on. You're Hard Core Man! Hats off to ya! That 289 will easily double your power ... for a fraction of the cost. Keep Cranking, at your own pace, & Take Care of that Heart! Happy Holidays!
Progress over years end 2025. Didn't carry it downstairs, just flipped it on its side. Suspension mocked, 8 inch taper tube '65Mustang rear. After much measuring, leveling, and squinty one eye open staring, this CraigsList 6 inch drop axle has reached 3 strikes now. Strike 1 - needs magnafluxing Strike 2 - Castor has s 3.5 degrees worth of twist from side to side w/P.side leaning back. Strike 3 - D. side camber 0 ... P. side camber 4.5+. Took it apart and get the same when I level/measure it clamped in the vise. Feeling like that side of axle got hit in a previous life? Is that a recipe for death wobble? Post Office (Santa) delivered Vega box . Shipping box was shredded and pitman arm and mount bracket were missing. I figure they fellout in Kentucky or Texas, but they no questions asked and new ones in 8 days which is amazing 'cuse long way to Hawaii. First Rainbow of New Year. Happy New Year HAMB!
Happy New Years Man. Ch***is looking great! Sounds like you got a 32 pretzel axle... caster should be easy to fix...Camber, that's alot...was it hit? Almost looks like someone cut the ends it and welded it back together. Or maybe just filled the ends, seen that on a couple of "island axles" So i guess it must be forged?...(weldable) Looks like you're going with fenders so you need a good drop axle? I ask around if someone have one they no need... Stay Dry! Tommy
Thank you, Iffy on fenders and with longer frame the'll need crafty mods. I have the model a axle, model b, and a 37? all stockers. Hot rod buddy says he don't know anyone who drops em out here.
You could move the axle forward, and snip the frame rails right behind the axle...with a spring mount. (Suicide style) Different style!? Dunno if that's your cup of tea? Allot of these setups use heavily dropped axles...?? (looking at pictures online) A heavily dropped axle like to twist at heavy breaking... The island axle drop guy is long gone... Don't remember the guys name. (i was told, there's supposed to be two of them "somewhere")
I like this approach and could dial in whatever height with whatever axle... Low and Fun. I don't see myself going this way. I'm back to considering shipping 1 or 2 to Gearhead79 for dropping. Which may be the best path to a using a FORD drop axle.
