Like the Hit or Miss Engine. Couple of events I go to every year a guy has a Hit or Miss mounted on a trailer that powers four large ice cream churns all driven by chains and each churn can be put in neutral when not in use. Really like watching it run and the the ice cream is delicious.
You are a better man then me Denny if you don't have at least one "spare" motor running around the shop. I think the current tally at my place is 3 V8's - ***embled on carts, another dis***embled flathead on a pallet, and a couple of big inline oil burners on carts as well. Problem, I think not!
No spare here! Nope Don't tell my wife this, nobody in their right mind has large chunks of expensive metal just lay'n round.............unless it's aluminum!
Well, I'm not man enough to lift 1/2 the weight of a motor, so that motor saw is pretty much out of the question. Back when I had a need for an extra good motor, I kept it at the local junk yard! When we were dirt track racing, the old guy at my favorite junk yard told me he had a good motor the same size we were running, sitting and waiting for when ever I needed it, for $25! I'd buy the $25 motor, move the cam, the heads, and the intake over to the "new" motor and go racing! The next week, he had the next one waiting! Ah, the good old days you could get away with basic stock motors, and friends that had a bunch of them.
I have an old friend whose a bachelor. That's key to what he did with a spare SBC. He has a 1970 Chevy pickup he's owned since new, and went through it to do a top to bottom restoration. During the restoration he decided to buy a crate engine, but wanted to keep the original engine also. He cleaned it all up spotless and made a stand to bolt it to. Then he took four of the piston/rod ***emblies and made corner supports off the beautifully painted block and ordered a piece of plate gl*** large enough to be a coffee table. Four of us moved it into his front room and it sits there for everyone to see when they walk in the front door! My wife would never let that slide, but if she did I'd have such a coffee table soon!
I’m starting to gather one or two. Right now there’s a pair of 283s in the garage, the 327 is at the engine shop, and 2 Austin A-Series 4 cylinder engines are tucked into corners. I’m not as bad as most of you guys.
Hard to think of what it would be like. To have only one spare engine.. Just for ha ha's I looked up the dry weight of an Olds 215 aluminum engine. 320 lbs. So probably 400 pounds or so with the chain saw setup. Eat yer Wheaties!
Dolmar made a rotary engine chainsaw; I think they came out in the 1980's. I used to be a big chainsaw collector, so I bought one when I lived in Europe. They're not cheap (at the time, they were maybe $1,500 for a complete one that runs and needs TLC?) but an important one to have for a collector.
Watch out for those BMC A-series blocks... they breed like rabbits. I had left home for more than a decade and Dad was still finding parts Always dreamed of taking one out to 1310cc. Cheers, Harv
Well, there is a 1275 Cooper S crank, set of rods and bare block waiting for its turn to be next. And 3 different heads. A few carbs and manifold combinations. And even an original Cooper exhaust header/manifold, the one made from 2 sheet metal stamping. I just haven’t been able to make myself use it! I cleaned out a couple of old Mini racers garages 25-28 years ago.
The engine in the video short is a 215ci aluminum block Buick, so it's not as heavy as an SBC or some other iron block engine.
Have another C59A just sitting in my ba*****t workshop. Plan is get it rebuilt and use it in some sort of Hotrod after I finish my current project.
Around 15 years back,I thought I'd build a hot rod, just to havr fun doing it,then sell it! Never got past, just getting parts together, and thought of using one of the extra V8 engines I have . Never going to happen,to old @ 84yo,now an time is being used up,just keep my 28A running. 53 Merc. Flathead v8,a number of Ford "Y" V8s in both parts an 2 together{ unknown con/but trun over] 302 mustang V8< ya;way to many. Who needs a project???cheep. This is were my time goes!
I’m going to guess that you don’t have any stereo system other than those headers on that… and that is okay with me!
This one is under my son’s bench, it’s a spare circle track 356” all iron , RHS 210cc intakes with 64cc chambers, and 13.8-1 compression. Has dyno run sheet….we have never called it into service.
Your [pretty close to right on........} Real of it is,back in the early 1960s,when I was driving my 28A to Sr High School,I did add a little transistor RADIO with a ear bud to my stuff. It was the size of a pack of Camels an could roll into a T-shirt sleve like some did with pack of cigs. If running at normal speeds,I could hear radio OK,but if getting on it=only EX bl***t!. WQAM Rick Shaw< DJ back then #1 Rock n Roll Miami Fla. Some others were doing same thing,we had 2 other hotrods in school Steve R {31A Sedan} an John M { 47 Sedan ; called "Alley Oop" } Headers in High school were not chrome ,just heat paint sliver, but pretty close to same layout tube wise. Rod was my first baby,so kept it...
