  1. Same gear ratios ?

  2. The 319 OD pops up sometimes fairly reasonable around here. Non-sync 1st
I’ve got a Saginaw OD I’m saving for a future project.
A 319 would be a direct bolt in
I’ve got one from a tri5 the owner didn’t use the governor and worked the solenoid with a switch on the shifter

the OD is .70 I think. Could use a low rear gear with that

    Cool stuff
A six with some goodies and a three on the floor sounds fun.
I had an OT 4wd with an in-line six (stock) and a three on the floor 3.50ish gear I think probably 500-1000 lbs more than your 56. Loved it, not a hot rod but it did ok, never cruised over 65 much but I did drive it all over the western US. I’m sure your engine will make more than the 110 hp I had.

The old ‘56 3 spd/OD works like the later all synchro trans when the OD is enabled. But if you have the later trans available cheap I would try that. Especially if you can get your hands on an OD version.

  5. Can use the current shifter on a 3 speed OD

  7. A factory over drive would be cool as cool can be .

im planning on daily driving this thing so hwy speeds are important

I don’t need dragster launches , but a nice hwy cruising speed is essential

@anthony myrick would you be willing to part with that od ? Shipping will probably be a biznich

The ‘55-‘57 style 3 spd/OD trans is fine for what you say you want to do. They just seem to have fragile gears, especially when speed shifted by sloppy column shift linkage. Be nice to it and it’ll last forever.

The 1956 will need a bell housing with side mounts, to work with front crossmember engine mounts.

Or convert to side engine mounts and a rear trans crossmember.

Not real sure how you mean that.
But don't forget the size of the torque curve in a six pack.;)
