Got her going again! All Mallory parts this time!!!

-New Low cut-in 1 wire internal Regulator
(Seems way more stable, and a consistent 14.8v when it kicks on, somewhere around 1200 maybe now? No tac. )

-Mallory Circuit protector ( hid behind radiator hose in black GM wire loom tape)

-New Accel/Mallory E-Spark Module. (Actually manufactured in 2023, so no old style.).

-An actual 1.4 ohm Mallory coil!

-And actual Mallory 0.8 ohm ballast resistor!
-New Pertronix Cut to fit Wires
-437 Autolite 8N Tractor plugs.( slightly more electrode sticking out.)

So far it’s been running good, just has a stumble off idle which I think it’s the 54 jets are too small. It had 62s in it which was really rich it called for 51’s, in a 390 Holley, (which I cant see it running at all?). so I’m gonna put 59s in it and readjust accelerator arm pump to .015 and see what happens!
    All in all,
I still don’t trust it though so I’m gonna probably drive less than 5 miles around my neighborhood for a month or two in case I have to use AAA lol!!!!

    IMG_4268.jpeg IMG_4270.jpeg 1 week later.
Ventured out of the neighborhood, and down the freeway one exit, still running good, so far ballast, coil, spike filter seem to being doing their job.
Maybe next week I’ll do two laps down the freeway!
(by the way, ended up going all the way back to 61 jets seems to like them!)

    Thanks OutBack!
I still won’t fully trust it until I get a spare Unilite distributor to keep behind the seat!

IMG_4282.jpeg IMG_4280.jpeg IMG_4281.jpeg IMG_4283.jpeg IMG_4284.jpeg IMG_4285.jpeg Well my 33 front end is really narrow so I have no room for an overflow tank so last year I put a mustard bottle on the frame rail and it kind of works until it flipped over and dumps out so now I use my sewer plant plumbing skills and made a little overflow tank With a burp valve on top and a polyurethane line on the inside, going to the bottom with a little fluid there so it ****s it like a late model. I don’t know if it’ll work, but we’ll see !

Sorry to hear about your father. That looks like a very nice convertible sedan. You can certainly put it in the cl***ifieds here on the HAMB. Just need a location and asking price. The market is very soft on these cars. I inquired about a similar car when "shopping to sell a car" at one of the mega warehouse consignment places and the salesman's line was that "persons interested in these cars are dead and dying and the prices we can get reflect that". His line seemed practiced, but it is accurate to some degree. Here is a nice stock '38 that sold recently for under $20k https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1938-ford-deluxe/ Here is one that is probably a better comp for yours: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1939-ford-deluxe-convertible-sedan-2/

Sweet car for sure. I’d not been looking for this thread for several years, reread most of the first page and jumped to the end!

I do you recall you mentioning some 5 years ago along the lines of “I got to page 20 of 1000….”

    Now look at you;)

Hope your dad is doing well, I’d bet he’s happy with where you’ve taken the ‘33.

I've been following along for a while. The car looks amazing with the hood sides on. The car looks just like the cars I remember seeing at rod runs in the mid-70's with my dad and older brothers.

    UPDATE: I think The ****** Finally Broke-in!
Think it had to mesh the old gears with the new ones. I replaced third and second and the synchros and hub, but I still have the original cluster shaft, first gear and all that other stuff so maybe that’s part of the reason why it was sticking and popping out of gear a little bit in the first 500 miles, or so??? because now it seems to stay, and it Shift’s easier dunno?
No sense taking it apart anytime soon. Might as well just drive it!!! Same with my homemade water pump pulley belt support, still seem to be hanging in there!!!

    Dude!!!
I haven't seen this thread in YEARS. So good. Super happy for you and kudos on all the progress. The NealInCA compliment has to be a blue ribbon. Hell yeah. Your goal achieved - certified.
I posted on this bad boy about 40 pages ago - post #283! Don't look, it's just encouragement and a comment on healing up your Dad relationship. I have two childhood friends/Little League teammates who didn't end up with their Dads' hot rods. That has to sting. Glad you ended up with Dolly and I hope the last 5 years working on this beauty has been a relationship builder with your Pop.
    Well done.

Earned achievement - An earned achievement is a success or accomplishment that results from hard work, effort, and dedication. It often implies overcoming challenges to reach a significant goal.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. It is definitely been a labor of love. Of course it’s not finished. It’ll never be finished, but the outside is pretty much done other than me fixing a fender here and there and repaint it properly and some filler here and there the inside is about half done it’s kind of industrial alike right now just black with some 3M spray coating here and there. I’m gonna leave the rafters exposed but I probably do a matching matching alligator black vinyl up to the top tack strip maybe eventually.?
I just put a black-and-white saddle blanket over the Mo Hair rear seat since it doesn’t really match, even though it’s nice.
(The Arvin Heater kicks **** by the way!)

    COOL UPDATE!!!

I have been wanting these tires ever since I saw that they made them! they’re like the perfect nostalgia Tire that was never made in the 60s…. but should’ve been! ….anyway a long time of them being out of stock, not having money, etc…. Finally got to order them!!!
Thanks to the Dude! with the falcon g***er! cause I couldn’t find any pictures on the HAMB!
But they look awesome!!! They’ll go great with my 560 Firestone piecrusts in the front
    They’re perfect 29 inches tall!!!
I love my pro tracs… but they are a little bit later than the period I like, but they Work. They also a little bit lower profile. They’re more like 27 1/2. They were basically made for nostalgic muscle cars that have smaller fender openings. But they also look good on the 33 depending on the angle you’re looking at it. Sometimes it looks like they are a little low-pro compared to the front depending on the angle.
So these will be tall, slightly narrower, and match the front proportions a little better.

I'm damn near on permanent holiday (retired) but am trying to keep busy with a little work here and there...last year I had 3 vehicle accidents with 2 torquing me up a little but I'm nearing an almost full recovery from them. None were my fault but I wish I'd been able to avoid them nonetheless but I think I had a target on my forehead...sheesh...one was the Hotrod too so I'm in the process of getting it put back to it's former glory...:)

That aside it's been a good winter here, holidays good, happy to be alive, Hotrod season was fun and things could have be way worse, seriously.

    They be Tall!
Think they’ll settle down a bit when stretched out on the 10 inch rim. they’ll have a little bulge, kinda like the front!
