Look for this when you get the crud off. See the crack between the valve and the cylinder.
Came out of my once good running 40 coupe, now with SBC adapted to trans.

If the block is good, and you can find a good 8ba type crank and rods, that would save you money on bearings and time setting up the tricky floater rods. buy mains for block year and rod bearings for the 8ba. I did this on a 40 block in my T roadster. Leave the outside finish in my opinion. It's neato.

Its ready to pull but I have to go to a Christmas parade instead. The lifter valley is clean, the mouse houses were all in the exhaust and hot air heater tubing.

Thats one of the cleanest I've ever seen! They usually look like a tar pit in there.

Pulled the engine today and got the stuck piston out, the rod bearing came out in multiple pieces but the journal nor the rod are scored. The engine spins now without any stuck valves but the bores are rough. This has a 3 ring dome piston, were these stock?
I’ll finish teardown this weekend and mic everything to see what the damage is.

if the liners are still in the motor knock them out and you have a perfect bore, find the over sized piston that was made to fit that bore and you will be good to go. Look up Barn find 08, fred wilner he may have what you need.

Its apart minus the valvetrain, I want to order the right tools first. All the rod bearings were broken, the mains are rough but I might be able to save the crank.

Man, what a mess you made! From what can be seen the crank should be OK with a polish or minor cut. Your rebuilder will determine what needs done. The pistons appear to have been hot and will need replaced. Can't really see the rods. At least everything came apart and no broken bolts yet. Are there any visible death blow cracks between the piston and valve surface. If not, still mag them to be sure and check line bore in the crank journals and cam. If everything checks out OK you are in luck.

If you need the .0825" over pistons and rings, give me a shout. I have a set that I'm not going to use.

Did all 1941 Flathead engines have cylinder sleeves or was this engine rebuilt with them years ago? Nice project.

I think in 1940 they all had sleeves, no? The "tin can" motors.

It varied as it was a changeover year of sorts. Henries' folk using everything they had in stock prior to moving on. Later years they were eliminated altogether.

What an excellent find! My 41business coupe was my favorite & still miss it dearly after 50 years. Per Warhorse, 41 was a transitional year, with some parts / components common to 40 & some common to 42-48. there are also Ch***is, sheetmetal & suspension differences (minor) between 41 & later years. Yours appears to be a very early 41 from what I can see, and being a "standard" likely has some engine parts leftover from 40. If that block isn't cracked you have a great start that can be modified/updated & no need for any other powerplant! My only caution would be to ditch the manifold heater; it isn't worth the risk unless you completely re-do it. 41's also came with hot water heaters (no carbon monoxide hazard). Congratulations & best of luck with will be a super cruiser when it's back on the road!!! I do have some 46 2 door quarter panel sheetmetal and a maybe few useable steering/suspension pieces if you run into a need!
