Unfinished cars didn't get magazine space until Pat Ganahl re-lit R&C ...

Oh Man that’s a cool old tub and get me all Jazzed up to build mine.
Pheatons are great to drive friends around or chasing parts down. This one looks fantastic plus I love the Americans on her for that 70s vibe.. IMG_2385.jpeg

Finding history on older unfinished hot rods and kustoms is usually a futile exercise because so many from the fifties and sixties were high school cars that were never finished, or if they were, were simply drivers and never shown.

In the fifties and sixties, I saw a number of very cool cars inside garages or warehouses that probably didn’t ever come to life. Many high school cars were just projects and drivers that were abandoned after graduation. My senior year hot rod (29 Tudor A) was parked outside when I went to college in the fall. The next summer I pulled the 327 motor and trans for my $200 ‘57 BelAir Tudor. Later, the A’s body was given away to the guy who previously gave me a complete chromed interior trim set for the car. I later used the frame for an A/SR project. Only the frame with DMV ***igned registration number has survived. …and so many cars that could have survived were wrecked by the next owner who bought it for not much and didn’t give it the love it needed to survive.

What we had and did in the fifties and sixties is mostly lost to the world today to everyone but ourselves. The cost of cameras and film processing meant that few photos were taken of our precious builds for the rest of the world to see and enjoy today. My junior year high school car didn’t get a single photograph from that era. I only have one photo showing it in the background covered by snow. Luckily I kept the car and gave it a full rebuild about a dozen years ago, and now have likely over a thousand photos of it at all stages of the rebuild.

    Thanks Joey.

Is it kind of rare to see a photo of a traditional car in this time period that is really cool? This is the first one in a long time that caught my attention.

    Like Don Montgomery time traveled.
