    Lion’s Dragstrip set up photo..

    Hello,

For all the accolades this 1961 Corvette Modified Sports Car Cl*** winner received, there was one thing everyone noticed. Since most of the racers at the time were limited in what they could spend or hiring the best metal work folks in the business, this Corvette missed the mark.

When this Corvette approached the starting line, all eyes were on the fastest sports car in that cl***. “One of the hottest Vettes in history,” as the magazine described it. It was and it won plenty of trophies.

But, one glaring aspect of this great looking Corvette was in the rear side panel. The new stock 61 Corvette had a sleek outline with everything handy and in a good design phase. Even the wheel wells were open enough to allow slicks to be mounted. But, if larger slicks were to be used, the stock shape still could be followed to make it look stock.

I did another art work about a 61-62 Corvette from stock to adding custom wheels. The rear wheel arch was a simple item to draw on a car.
    upload_2025-12-18_4-39-50.png Street/strip...plus
a slight rake with stock, but custom wheels...

lowered to the ground with custom mag wheels or slicks that would fit the arched opening.

    Note:
When my brother and I were getting our final Willys Coupe build ready for the next step, one of the items was a radius arch on the rear wheel opening. We had ordered larger Halibrand Mag Wheels and larger M&H slicks. So, it was a radius arch with a string and chalk line.

upload_2025-12-18_4-42-40.png The circular wheel arch could be easily re-drawn and cut/rolled... The stock wheel opening was almost round, so the chalk line would have been a few inches larger overall for those m***ive M&H slicks to fit.

But, with the modified 1961 Corvette, a square opening for a round tire? Please… Where is the styling and proportions for a good design? It looked awful, but it was the fastest drag racing Corvette during those times…YRMV

I believe that's actually actress Patti Chandler and I don't think she was ever married to Larry.
Can't find any info that Amadee Chabot was married to Larry either but there's not much info out there.
So I could be wrong on both counts.

Lots of info out there on Larry and his wife, Amadee. These and more pics are from CCC. Scroll down for Amadee.
