Can’t rem very if I posted this before so if I did I apologize... How many hides would be required to upholster a ‘47 Buick Super convertible as well as a ‘32 5W coupe (including headliner on the coupe)?
You sort of asked here...... https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/can-you-dye-coloured-cowhide.1341450/
My best guess would be at least 3, maybe 4. Because you’re doing two complete cars you’ll need enough for two seats plus a headliner. Not to mention you’re also going to need to decide if it’s all the same color or two different colors. And it’s going to umm, keep you in s***ches. Hehe
Seems to me there will be 3 seats to cover for starters. Probably take 1.5 hides for the front seat because of size and having to do front and back in the Buick and 1 for the back. 1 hide for the seat in the 32. One hide for the headliner and probably 2-3 hides for all the door panels in both cars. So I would guess 6-7. You use a lot more material than you think.
Thanks for the replies guys! After Christmas I’ll be talking to an upholster to get more specific numbers. The actual jobs are down the road but I like to have my ducks in order before I start something...
My roadster took 4, while there was no top obviously there was a full leather trunk and leather seat back, seat pocket and all of the real estate behind the seat. There were only s****s left over for shift boots and odds and ends. Don't guess short, or dye lots may not match. You can always do the trunk and headliner last in case you have to pick up another hide.
Some companies offer both leather and vinyl in the same color and grain, as are commonly used in late model cars. Unless you're stuck on cowhide, look at that option for door panels, headliner, etc. It still smells like leather in your car....
