Ok, my 241 Red Ram in now broke in. I just bought a MSD 6a ignition box, that I want to install. I have pertronixs guts in my dizzy and using a Flame Thrower coil (pertronixs)..I want to know what is the best and hottest spark plug to use, and what gap should they be set at.... The engine has 3x2 intake w/97s, Sanderson headers, oversize valves, if thats any help.. Thanks Duane..
Plug heat range depends on compression your running, cam etc. On my Caddy I'm running 12:1 comp. so the only plugs I can use are AC 42-1 these are the coldest plugs I can get and they run a light tan color. I have a Jacobs Energypak system with dist . using Petronix Iginter. Also plugs are gapped to .055"
Hi Duane, I"ve got a 58 392 hemi (blown). I'm running a msd 6al with blaster 2 coil. I've had real good luck using ngk bpr5es plugs gapped at .045". They burn real clean and last along time. No problem with misfires. That would be a good starting point. You might want to try one step hotter. Hope that helps. Chuck
The 241 Does Not use the same plug as a 354-392...... Every application will have it best plug, simply trial and error. The basic 241 plug is an Autolite 86 or Champion RJ18yc. Maybe this will help... http://www.championsparkplugs.com/sparkplug411_manufacturer.asp?manufacturerID=2 .
I have been running autolite 65 plugs, which is what I ordered, but they sent me ngk bpr5es plugs. Are the ngk bpr5es OK? The engine has slight bigger cam and low compression , 2 4s 500 cfm edelbrock? It's a driver not a race car.
