How old's the oldest H.A.M.B. member?60+?Tell us a cool story

Dang. I spent a couple years working as a flight instructor. Soloing someone with 6.5 hours of flight time sounds terrifying to me, although I know that was somewhat common back in the day. These days, somewhere around 20 hours in the norm. The survival rate is much higher that way.

 

I'm 77 but have no stories...
Something about the Statute of Limitations or something.

 

I am 77 and I have a few more . My first new car was a 67 Nova SS 327/275 with a 3:08 posi. I had a L79 cam and I would freshen up the tune every 10K miles. I would them check out the tune by running it 55mph in 1st.,80 ln 2nd., 100 in 3rd and bury the needle into the right turn signal light in 4th.
One night heading back home I came up on 2 guys in a 65 Impala that decided to see if I could keep up with them.
When we got to 105 they seem to celebrate as we stay neck and neck for a while. I blew the horn to get their attention and waved bye to them, leaving them like they had dropped an anchor . Would have loved to hear their side of the sroty.

 

Today I turned 55, far from the oldest member here. It's good to see guys still enjoying the hobby well into their 90's. Gives me hope I guess.

 

Here is what you will learn as you get older.
Put creeper on floor, get on your knees and slowly lay on the creeper, slide under car, fall asleep, wake up a few minutes later, discover that you have the drive but forgot the socket, pull out from under car, roll off creeper, grab bumper with right hand, go to one knee, grab bumper with other hand, go to other knee, pull yourself up, go to bench and find socket, go back to creeper...
discover you have to piss!

Haha that’s great news, apparently I have arrived many years ago

 

I'm far from one of the oldest age here, but Uncle Sam says I'm officially eligible for social security now. But I have been around the HAMB for approx 25 of those years.

 

I just found this topic, and I like the idea of knowing who is the oldest. But no way can I read 27 pages to try and find out.

I’m 65 , lots of stories from being a pipeliner and working on the county farm . Most I can not share on here but are damn funny stuff . I worked on the pipeline gang with my Dad for years so we had memories together , that many have not ever been able to share with their Dad . One I can share I hope will get a few chuckles . Working on some natural gas storage wells in the middle of summer in southern Ky . 2 well crews come in from Michigan , the Ky boys dusted down with sulfur , Michigan boys nothing . After the first day , the Michigan boys are digging and scratching every part of their bodies like they never have . One asks me what the hell has gotten ahold of me ? I have bumps swelled up itching everywhere , crotch is the worst . I told him “ you caught some unknown **** for a lot lizard at the truck stop last night .” He proceeds to ask me what the hell do I do , I can’t go home to my old lady like this ? I told him only way I know to kill them is you have to paint over them with RED only finger nail polish . Next day he comes in rolls up his pants , lookin like he was shot with a shot gun that was full of red paint . He then says it cost me a hundred to get the woman to paint the ones in my AZZ crack ! I could not stop laughing . I told him man welcome to Ky and Chiggers ! I made it safely so far and received a good street education .

I've had to work like this for a few years now, which tells me a lift or 2 at home is in my future.

Going to do whatever I can to slow the breaking process so I can drive a stick longer

 

This happened around 68/69 while I was in the Marine Corp, so I didn't hear about this until years later. A friend, Bubba got a new 400 Firebird that he ran pretty hard . He ended up totaling it and it was towed to the local body shop. As is custom in a small town many people came to see the car that almost killed Bubba. Bubba was dating a local preacher daughter and the preacher came to see the car , after which he forbid her dating Bubba . Bubba's friends had placed about a dozen prophylactics through out the wrecked car.

 

I will be coming up on 78 yrs. young soon, and married my wife as she as she got out of high school and
turned 18 by one month. I was 22 then, and it was this hot rod that brought us together. 55 years later, still in love, still married and 4 kids
and 9 grandkids later, still very happy and still hot rodding. This is a picture of my future bride standing next
