I have tried searching and found nothing mentioning this specifically, the Clamp***e tie wire style clamps have been seen on industrial and aviation engines dating back to the 20s. Occasionally, they will be seen on high end performance engines like indy motors from that era, but does anyone know if they got used on actual hotrod engines and/or would they be considered TROG approved? IMO they certainly have the right look but cant find much one way or the other.
Somewhere between high end race car and farmers baling wire. I’d say it works on a hotrod to me. I don’t think anyone was being as **** as they are now about matchy matchy clamps and etc. but if they existed and weren't super expensive or rare I’m sure they showed up on hot rods. I would believe a car having Indy car clamps waaaaaay before believing anyone had a scot blown Ardun flathead with kinmont brakes and a pair of e&j headlights etc all in one car.
Actually they look a lot better than conventional hose clamps. If they were used in aviation during the 20s its a pretty good bet that people racing on the dry lakes used them and they trickled down to their street driven vehicles as well.May not find any actual do***entaion, but I doubt anyone could definitively say that hot rodders never used them.
When you wanna to know if an application is appropriate just do the leg work. Find all the old photos you can. Looks like the stuff of old Euro racers to me.
Depends what you mean by traditional. The clamps may have been available in the 20s but rubber gas and oil lines were not invented untill much later
As I said before, there is a great article in the latest Rodder's Journal called "The Devil is in the Details", an illustrated history of hot rod hardware, that covers many items such as clamps, pop rivets, AN fittings, etc. to help guys like you find the appropriate hardware for your chosen era. You don't have to guess; the author has done it for you.
As others mentioned, TROG qualifying doesn't get so finite that it comes down to what types of hose clamps you have. That said, I am one who appreciates this type of detail, so I'd say use them. Motorcycle chopper shops sell cloth covered modern rubber hose if you want to take it one step further in being "authentic".
Can someone explain what the fuss is with this style br*** hoseclamp. They are on different vintage parts sites and allways described as "Enots hoseclamps" whatever that means . Allways about 20 euro each. So €40 for a pair.
We had those in the 60 at the car factory. I was thinking they need a hand held vice looking tool to hold the clamp while they tightened it. Then they went to a clamp that they used special pliers on. Used on gas torch hoses also.
