Bill, that's the Ram Rod, like in my '57.
The tall handle on that M21 in the other post may not be the one I use! It is a big letter stick, so an older one. I had to put it on there for fun!

My current project is upholstering the back of the cab so it’s ready when I swap the bench for buckets. Making nice corner radiuses has been a challenge because the top and bottom contours need to have a different arc. Tomorrow I’m going to try making a plywood buck to thermo form some 1/8” ABS plastic sheeting. I’m thinking that making the corners slightly oversized and t******* to fit is probably the best approach. Any tips would be much appreciated…

Well, I finally installed the Torque Thrust wheels on the front of my Model A pickup. I had been running mismatched wheels with Torque Thrusts on the back axle but chrome smoothies on the front. The front tires had so much tread left when I installed the rears that I wasn't ready to take them off just yet. But they finally wore to the point that I needed to change them out, so I ordered some front runners from Towell City to match the cheaters I got from them on the back. When I went to install the wheels I found the studs were too short, so I had to change them out. And while I had the hubs off to change the studs I went ahead and cleaned all the old grease out of the bearing and repacked them. So no more mismatched wheels. I liked the old look, but I like this better. And it handles very nicely now. 20251212_144401.jpg

So I got a wild hair up my **** today and decided to get started installing the 32 grill shell I picked up at LARS swap in 24. Got the shell installed, then took it back off to do some straightening and then I'll put some paint on it. Will be ready to go for GNRS. Resized_Resized_20251229_150639.jpeg

After some minor straightening with hammer and dolly I got the shell sanded down and uncovered more damage that was hidden under some filler. Did my best to get that straightened out, put a skim coat of filler where needed, then today I got a break in the weather and got some primer on it. Tomorrow I can start sanding it down again in prep for some color. 20260101_161715b.jpg 20260101_161754b.jpg

Got the buck for the cab corners ***embled and attempted to form an ABS panel, the first try was an abject failure. On the second attempt it turned out great, but I only had enough material left to do one side. More ABS will be here Monday…

I'm putting together a 215 Buick with a 300 crank and have not been able to find an externally balanced flywheel so I picked up a Craigslist SBC example. I turned a 156 tooth ring gear to fit in place of the 153 tooth and then heated it to mount. I also had to move one hole since it was for an internally balance engine. Then by balancing the 300 flex plate on the tire balancer determined the counterweight needed. A piece of bar stock that matched the bolts weight and distance from the center was cut and mounted. Final mounting will be countersunk flat head screws.

I may be way wrong, but doesn't a " balanced" flywheel "balance" out the "imbalance" of the rotating ***embly? It seems to me balancing the flywheel on a tire balancer would not work? I hope I am wrong and it works well for you.

    Here is my take.
Look at the flex plate. The two cutouts make this piece out of balance to correct the imbalance that could not or was not done with the counterweights on the crank. Also, there is the fact that one mounting hole is offset by about 0.125" so it could only be mounted one way. The weight was about 7 ounces at 3" from the centerline.
I am new to the small Buicks but this also came up when I put a Mcleod flyweel on the 215 crank.

Thanks patsurf. I got interested in balancing when I built my smallblock. Similar models typically hopped around the tables when they were run at shows. So I built a balance fixture that was driven by a sewing machine motor. I matched the rod big end and little end weights and cast lead bob weights based on the V8 formula of 50% reciprocating and 100% of rotating m***. The holes I drilled in the counterweights matched the full size crank I had copied. It hangs dead nuts still through a range of RPM in the fixture and the engine runs with minimal vibration.
