Hey guys....I'm using a bare stripped down Saturn View EPS column and can't wrap my head around how to do a br*** contact ring & brush pin setup so I can use the horn ****on on the aftermarket steering wheel. I could put a ****on on the dash or console but would prefer to use the steering wheel horn ****on. Has anyone done this?
I'd guess they are like all modern steering setups where they use a ribbon connector (clockspring) for all wheel mounted functions. Pictures would help, but really, it's a matter of using that part and having a typical horn ****on, or replacing it with complete old style slip ring. Here's one example, ignore the brand. https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/256918-pics-of-horn-slip-ring-attachment/ All it's got to do is have a relay trigger wire feed to the ****on. Pressing on the ****on grounds the circuit to the steering column/shaft, closing the relay. It will need to be insulated so expect some plastic or other non-conductive parts.
Here's another horn wiring option: https://www.limeworkshotrodparts.com/products/rhk1001?_pos=2&_psq=hor&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Does anyone see the humor in using an electric power steering column.............and the horn don't work.
Since air bags became common, steering wheel replacement became rare. No simple column adapters, difficulty in keeping a shaped air bag in the design. The power ***ist at the end doesn't enter into it. I get the humor, though.
