Personally, I had more fun holding my girl friend (now my wife) tight so she couldn't slide away on really tight turns. :D The shifter built into the seat would have been a huge NO in my rides.
One of the dumbest things I ever did was get rid of that front bench seat! Buckets and a console? What was I thinking?

SIX people from my high school graduating cl*** were killed when thrown from a pickup bed, in separate accidents.

That was 1% or my entire high school.

Gimpy - that is horrible. Riding in the back of a truck is ok on the farm. Out on the road isn't.
Deuces - the Subie Brats had jump seats to avoid the import truck tax. Didn't look like a fun place to ride!

Did the "Brat" have lap belts, at least?

There were pistol grip style handles. There were belts as well.

got bounced off by a pothole while sitting on the open tailgate of a friends pickup at about 25 mph going from a party- across town to hang at his house. faceplanted on blacktop when the truck drove out from under me. got a chipped tooth , broken gl***es and still have the road rash scars to prove it. knew better than to do that but was too drunk to use good sense. ahhh,to be young along with the dumb again.

Seen that a few times. Buddy of mine lost a few toes. I wanted to dirty my diaper just looking at it!

My brother ant I rode in the bed of this old K model International from Northern California to the Texas Panhandle. My mom's uncle had given her a couple of rooms of furniture. The living room set was arranged for our comfort. We communicated with our parents in the cab with written notes through the rear window. None of the furniture in our "room" was secured. I guess our folks figured there were plenty more kids where we came from.

The few I installed way back then were purple. For the extra $$ the Zoom clutches cost over the NAPA clutches, they were not worth the extra $$ to me. My 70 Road Runner needed a new clutch every spring, within a couple of months it was already in pretty bad shape. May have had something to do with the guy driving the car, and how he drove it...
