I live in Cedar Rapids , this building is now Byrider dealership, I remember when it was the brand new 1st Ave Chrysler Plymouth dealership approx early 69. Everybody cruised "THE AVENUE" on Friday and Saturday nites, looking for a race, many times right here on first Ave,, stoplight to stoplight. Cedar Rapids had a lot of hot rodding and street racers, and sold stacks of Barracudas, and even more Road Runners. This is a photo at the dealership of the first trucks to pull in with Plymouth's largest ever one time shipments of AAR's,, 50 cars in one order. (Two of the guys in the photo are still around today) Always several Hemi cars in stock also. The good old days eh??
Very early 70's a high school pals' older brother had an orange AAR Cuda, 340/6 pack, automatic, put a BIG Sig Erson cam in it, stock converter, would barely idle in gear but when it got on the pipe the thing was scary!
The blue Plymouth with the wing, Superbird? I’d read an article in HRM and it spoke of them. Fast forward to ‘79 and I moved to Phoenix. Used to get off the freeway and drive some 20 miles or so to get into town, I think maybe it was Buckeye road? Had a bunch of stop lights. Anyways at one of the lights, in an open corner lot one of those were there. It had a cracked wing, for sale for $900. That has been the only time I’ve seen one “live”
Had a good friend that owned a couple of the winged wonders but both were 440 cars. After all of the factory body mods it was just kind of a disappointment to open the hood and not find a hemi sitting there... ...
As a Mopar guy, I can tell you a good running stock 440 six pack will shut down a stock street hemi. Modified is another story.
