Not often you get one over on the track owner - Bill Hielscher of Green Valley Raceway fame....

I looked it up and found this:
A/Engineered Type, which fell under the Compe***ion category.
I wasn't familiar with it either.

Creighton Hunter was in the Hutters club of the Russetta Timing ***n. and running at the same Lakes as I was. But I really did not know him then. But I started running at the Santa Ana Drags immediately after it opened in July of 1950. Creighton was one of the partners (C.J. Hart, Creighton Hunter and Frank Stillwell) who started the Santa Ana Drags, also know as the Orange County Drags.

Creighton was a hot rodder who raced at the drags and the Lakes. His day job was as an oil distributor - Hunter Oil Co. in Santa Ana. A bunch of years ago Creighton organized the Santa Ana Drags Reunions, where we all could exchange lies about how fast we went. He was kind enough to loan me numerous photos from his album.

Here is a photo of his T roadster at the lakes. This roadster has been maintained and raced by the Alcala family for many, many years. It was the first hot rod to display the famous OO Moon eyes.

    Hello,

A few years back, this was posted and shows one of the early versions of the famous T roadster, still in existence, today. Back in 2017, I talked to Hill Acala who bought the roadster way back in the 50s and currently has it in the same condition, but a slight bit cleaner than the above photo.

Then I wrote this story about the pristine T-Roadster.

old Friday Art… Hill Acala Modified Roadster

We used to see this roadster almost weekly as it was a favorite of ours. The look and style was right up our teenage alley, so to speak. The roadster just had that look and stance. But, the wild pipes running up and over the rear tire was definitely one of a kind.

It is credited with the first "moon eyes" painting prior to the Dean Moon logo. Boy, a copyright logo over the years would have brought in a ton of cash if one was so inclined during those early drag racing days.

When we were racing in our cl*** with the 58 Impala, we saw it in the pits and when I was in the stands, filmed the races of the roadster. The Roadster cl***es were always very compe***ive and fun to watch.

Later on, many years after our hot rod years, I was invited to the original Lion’s Dragstrip Museum opening. The set up days involved using my composite films of all the 58-60 drag racing I had taken over the years. For some reason, despite the “pros” inside of the fence, closer to the action, my color 16mm films are the only ones shown of the year of drag racing. And, I was stuck behind the spectator’s side fence without an expensive movie camera, without a telephoto lens.

But, the old saying was… I was there with my older brother and it was fascinating for a young teen. Since racing in a specific cl*** was our weekly thing, there were times when I wandered all over the drag strip trying to get the best location for films, during the breaks for our cl***. Sometimes, my brother would ask if I was going to film his racing in the Impala. So, with the distance from the spectators side, there are a lot of films of the A/Stock car cl*** racing. I loved drag racing and so, I also filmed what I liked.

My composite films were put on a giant 80 inch screen on the wall behind the Hill Acala Hunter Oil Roadster section and people were looking at the red roadster and my films. Yes!

There have been articles about this cool red roadster. It has been in magazines and on display in various places throughout the So Cal drag racing scene and hot rod events.

For drag racing folks who stopped to look at the red roadster and then spend time watching my films of drag racing at Lion’s Dragstrip with many of the drag racing cars on the museum floor, was nice. But, for the HAMB folks, it was the first time to publish and present those films on this site for the hot rod/drag race builders and enthusiasts.

I have wondered that too. I think one would be fun on the street.

Don’t believe this to be a real AFX altered wheelbase car as it had a full interior and appeared to be street legal.
