Very cool! I have a 56 Dodge 270 Poly sitting on a cart in my shop. As someone said before, I always thought it would look sweet in an exposed engine car. Where did you get the adapter for the 700r4?

Any 1st-gen Hemi trans adapter works on this block so I used a readily-available Hemi-to-GM adapter.

Also, don't forget to check in with the legendary 73RR...he is in your area; Bend, OR. He built me this as a long block and shipped to me in Detroit via Fastenal. We are now fitting up the bits and pieces to run it on the stand. If I were located closer to Gary, I would have some cool engine projects going before he got around to the Restraining Order. Good deal. Thanks guys. I'll keep them in mind if I end up dropping the 270 in something.

I only make the adapter for the Mopar units...no gm stuff around here.

These are Sanderson headers for a Dodge hemi, modified by Sanderson to accept poly flanges I sent them.

Don't make the same mistake I did and not specify a position for the header tubes. They stick way out from the block so far they don't the "block hugger" headers they started out as :(

I know this is an old thread, but saw your awesome engine and I have the same one that I'm rebuilding, but can't find a camshaft anywhere. Do you have any sources for a new camshaft, as mine is in poor condition.

He’s not been around since 2016, might be best to make a new thread, let folks know what you’re working on and what you want to have in the end.

This may be a question for @earlymopar.

I had Egge just do a cam for my 1954 270 Poly this year, I've had Racer Brown do a couple in the past as well as Isky. They all can spray weld yours back and then grind to the new specs.

Also get with Bob Walker at Hot Heads if you need parts, he's one of the only folks around who has the camshaft bearings reproduced for the 241-270 Dodge engines, I had to wait 6months because they were between production runs. Limited quan***ies produced for these engines.

For my later generation (mid-60s) Poly, I had a low mileage original camshaft in really good shape. I selected a Schnieder pattern # and sent those specs along with my original camshaft to Oregon Cams who then ground to the Schneider profile. No need to build up the original.

Did the 270 and other early polys have problems with premature camshaft wear? I had not heard this before.
