Today marked the end of one of the last original drive in restaurants in Western Pennsylvania. 73 years in business put to a screeching halt. Long story short a rent to own contract was broken and the property was sold to the neighboring Sheetz gas station. Plans are to demolish the building for bigger fuel islands and parking. So today we bid farewell to an old friend
Yup ...alot more going on behind the scenes then what is publicly known. As far as local history goes it's a major blow to all of us in the car community, all for the sake of gas pumps, iced coffee, and dollar hotdogs
Does your state have a historical landmark law my state does and many sites in Bismarck was saved including the Big Boy drive in but lost the steel trust rail bridge over the Missouri River built in the 1880s the railroad has to much money and pull to save it it's coming down.
The Saugus Cafe closed today. Opened originally in the 1800’s next to the railroad station. Moved once after 1900 to Railroad st. Oldest eatery in Los Angeles County. Was a stopping point on the way to Saugus circle track, drag strip and to and from Muroc Dry Lake then El Mirage. President Harrison and many Hollywood celebrities have eaten there too. Too bad many places are closing….
