I hate the drive from Washington to Nevada when I cut the corner of California. Speed limit is 55 mph when towing and 65 mph when not. California just lowered the speed limit to 60 mph state wide unless posted. Won't need OD ******'s in California any more.
Pretty much for work zones and if there is a disabled or stopped vehicle https://abc30.com/amp/post/what-know-new-california-public-safety-laws-2026/18331172/
I drive back and forth between Tucson and Michigan seasonally, and usually from Michigan to Virginia in the summer. It seems that traffic travels in packs. If you’re in a pack going ten or more over, it seems that everyone is going that speed. If you slow down to the speed limit, though, you realize not many cars are p***ing you, and you’re still p***ing a lot of cars. Plus, I go from 11 mpg to 15 or 16 in my Sprinter if I run below 70. That’s a big difference when Diesel is a dollar per gallon more expensive than unleaded. The old “you’ll get run over” argument is total bogus ********. Just practice lane discipline like they do in Germany.
On my last two big road trips, one across country, (2012 Dodge pickup) west to east from central California, then south to north and back west again, the other road trip, (1965 Ford F100) south to north up 395, then east through Montana, into Yellowstone and back, on those occasions we were on the interstate, there were several areas with speed limits at 80mph. I don't like driving that fast, mostly for fuel economy. I stayed pretty much in the right lane doing 65 to 70mph and let faster drivers go around. I was even warned that I would get run over. But,no one ran me over. No one even tried. Well maybe once. Another semi truck incident somewhat similar to the story in a previous post. On I-95 going through the New York area. A semi wanted my lane. He just started moving over. I had another semi in the other lane. Three vehicles occupying two lanes. I had to punch it to squirt out from between 'em. So I almost became a Dodge Puckup sandwich with semi truck bread. Other'n that no close calls.
The new law allows the state department to set up a Work Zone Speed Safety System that uses fixed or mobile radar or laser technology to spot speeding vehicles. The system will also capture a clear photo of the vehicle's license plate. "Citations will be issued to the vehicle's registered owner with specified requirements and procedures for program implementation, citation issuance, review, and appeal," the CHP said.
I did not. I was broadside to both. Then glad to be able to get out of the situation. I would not be surprised if they were not English speakers or US citizens. A lot of that in the news lately.
If you are within 100 miles of LA, people are consistently going 80 plus in the fast lane if traffic allows. No law is going to change that.
We went to California for Christmas dinner with family. When I entered the 10 freeway, I set the cruise control at 77mph and moved to the fast lane. I constantly check mirrors out of habit and when I see someone flying up behind me, I just move to the right and then move back. No harm, no foul. The wife has 10 more radiation treatments, and my lungs are shot so I have other things to worry about.
We live in Alabama and have a gas powered motorhome and when traveling on the Interstates I set the cruise control at 65 to 67 mph. At that speed we rarely p*** anyone other than an occasional semi or very slowly driven car. I stay in the right lane and when we do p*** another vehicle I usefully accelerate to get it done quickly. We get p***ed a lot! It seems there are a lot more people exceeding 80 plus MPH driving very aggressively weaving in and out of traffic than there used to be. When in our daily driver I usually set the cruise for 78 mph use the left lane for p***ing only but am constantly surprised at the amount of people p***ing at 85 mph plus.
I hate when the **** holes FLY up and p*** me on the right... when I'm in the center lane ! Maybe they think the cops won't notice them speeding in the right hand lane. Maybe I'm just turning into an old-man-driver **** I do my p***ing in the left lane and then GET OVER (most times) 6sally6
Yeah, the whole line of traffic behind him. Sounds like he had a fine setup for a one off trip. Are you the guy who goes into the dealership and comes back with a 1-ton because he has a 2000lb b*** boat to tow once a month.
I think people in general don't have the mental capacity to comprehend speed limit signs, what they mean, what they're for, and how to obey them. The same with turn signals, or whatever you want to call them. Then when they get stopped by the police for breaking the law it's all the officer's fault or someone else's fault. I was a deputy sheriff for a few years (11) and the excuses I heard were unbelievable! Why can't people act like adults and obey the law. Of course, this is just my most honest humble opinion, those of you who don't know how to obey the law your results will vary. Larry
I call it "you can't tell me what to do" syndrome..... and it's getting worse. Anti society and community at***ude just to not conform. It will end badly.
we had same problem last October travelling from Blythe Ca to Anaheim Ca, we had spent 2 months in USA and had travelled nearly 8000 miles and was in SLOW lane and not wanting to get to our motel early as room may not be ready. so we were maybe 10mph below speed limit, plenty of cars /trucks p***ed but not our next maniac , lights flashing.horn blowing , he/she was that close you could feel his radiator heat, after about 10 miles driver pulled out to p*** and just missed the back corner of our car, I played his game and flashed our lights just for fun. But stopped as we thought he may have a gun and shoot back at us.that was the only trouble in the 8000mile trip, with all other courteous drivers we came across
doesn't matter what the sign says in cal...Cal drivers have to p*** anyone in front of them... then slow down of co****... also, you are not allowed to use a turn signal when changing lanes... the signal is a sign for the car behind you to gas it so you can't get over
If everybody (except a select few geniuses, all of whom are inexplicably in this thread) is ignoring the speed limit its not everybody who's wrong.
So if I'm reading this correctly, it's ok to break the law if everyone is doing it? Wow, that's some genius thinking there.. Larry
