Picked up this Cdan....bone stocker... with hopes of leaving as a 40's 50's mild hotrod cruiser....kinda like the ol guy born in 1896 would have it in 1940...dual exhaust and ww tires..lowered a little. manager at the big lumber yard...still married to his hi school sweet heart... but now two little knuckle heads fighting and licking the windows in the back seat... driving down the road heading to his mother inlaws to drop the knuckle heads off for a week end get away to the coast... dream'n of the "GOOD " ol days when they run the hi boy model A with the fresh flathead...new bride slid over close on a honey moon beach trip... thinking of how he almost shed a tear when they said they would only give 100 bucks trade in ,and the new 36 was 600... So now... hotrod simmering in his blood...he has to lower the car.... heads to the local hotrod muffler shop... yep.. need some duals... and put the smithys on it... and heat the springs up and drop her alittle... shes getting new tires next month....gonna be cool at the new drive in movies (first drive in movie was 1933, 25 cents a car and 25 a person) any way...just my imagination i'm sure....but some times sitting in these ol cars I slip in to the ol day think'n of how the ol boy felt sitting in the car after he just dropped the 600 on the barrel head... that first letting out the clutch pulling off the lot.... livin the dream...
re liv'n the spirt of all the years gone by and that feeling when you drop the money on the barrel head....I loaded her up and brought her home..
With my history of.. can't leave it alone... I'm real hesitant of what I do with this car, don't wanna do anything that doesn't fit the era,and can't be changed back... soooo... new WWW tires 7.00&5.50's
Bought a 36 sedan years ago. Ran drove and stopped great. Original paint gl*** and top. Should have driven it. But I did the street rod thing. Was a nice car! Rode and drove like a dream Did the don’t talk about front and leaf rear springs. 59 Chevy gauges in the original bezels. AC all was good. Car had no dents are rust. Sold to buy a 32 huge project. Didn’t finish it.
Also ordered new reverse eye springs....but to be correct I should just heat the stockers... pretty sure no one had reverse eye springs in 1940-50
another, can't have it that way...drives me nuts....took the car to my sons house to show it...when I got ready to drive off... thought... never checked to see if the lights worked... "hey son,... do I have brake lights??? "nope"""... tail lights?? "nope"... head lights "yep"... aw ****... so test light in hand....car on the lift... dug in... checked the brake light switch....no go..... took the switch out. cleaned it up.... while it was out checked for power at the switch... nothing...figuered problem is in the column... but cleaned the terminals.. and got power... put it together and one light lit... so took the lenses off... all the bulbs burnt out... so... put new bulbs... hit the brakes... all the bulbs lit..stop and tail....turn the head lights on...all the bulbs lit... Ah f@#$ sum ting wong... so started at the switch and traced the wires to the tail lights....found 2 double wire bullet conectors....they used the wrong ones....they used the 4 hole conectors that didn't isolate the sides so no mater where the power came from all 4 holes were hot...so...now have head and tail lights that work.... YEE HAW...
40 years ago we we looking for one of the 35/36 flat back Tudors , could not find one . The local paper had a 37 ford coupe advertised, pretty clean . So all those years ago we still have it. At least it has a trunk to throw weekend luggage in .
I figure they didn't call 'em Victoria is because Ford didn't. I loved mine and the only change it saw was to add a stereo using a battery and speakers behind the rear seat. Even the cigarette lighter accessory that was in it worked fine and I saw a lot of use winter and summer. Boiled over on the way to Mt. Hood (from Carson City) and managed to find new thermostats and upper radiator hoses out in the middle of the lava fields at a tiny gas station. Bought a very large plastic barrel from the fellow there and filled it with water- just 'in case'. Lugged about 250 pounds of water up to Oregon and back to Nevada without needing a drop. Luggage, water supply, tools and young son all rode back there without any trouble. Lottsa room in that car. No trunk wasn't a problem, getting to what all was there thru the front doors sometimes..............
