IIRC, I‘ve read that as well while researching wide five wheels. Will still look at both options. I had an opportunity to buy qty 4 wide five drums/hubs in good shape for USD$600, but shipping from CA was around USD$300. So, decided to p***, but looking around the same cost for just two “standard” rear hubs. That means I would still have to get the drums for an additional cost going the “standard” hub route if buying new. Just crazy prices for those hubs!

That is a Model A axle. It would have been of absolutely zero use to you. You just saved $150 by not buying it.

You can use either the '40-41 style hubs with external drums, which is what is standard with the Speedway and Boling kits. Or you can scrounge up some '42-48 style hubs that use the drums that mount behind the hub.

That said, you want the '40-41 hubs with Boling Brothers drums.

The mechanical brake hubs from the earlier years will not work.

Are you ready to drive the car? Why not just shop around for a good original hub/drum ***embly that doesn’t require new drums? Take a little time and save a grand. Ask your buddies to help shake the bushes. I buy a whole rear end ***embly for less than $100 around here. About half the time the original drums can be turned and used.

I wish I had a lot of money to throw around, but if I did it wouldn’t be thrown at repro parts.

I’ve had some at 12.09 and they work fine. I think if they get a warp or wobble after a few hard stops, you know it’s too much.

Hopefully I have enough pieces to get one good one out of all that

I think I read somewhere that max dia. was 12.050” or 12.060” for wide five. ***ume it’s the same for others.

Guy with hub on FB wanted money before sending me tracking number. Seemed sus and he only took a couple of hrs to get shipping quote on a Sunday. Guy went on and on about how he’s sold thousands of items, and I was only the second person to ask for tracking number first. Gotta be a scam. A USD$325 (CAN$450 plus) item selling for CAN$75.

I can see both sides of it.
He wants money before he preps for shipment.

You’re looking at a price that seems to good.

75$ isn’t a lot of money, but I’d hate to just give it away.

Maybe ask him to place the hub on some object and take a pic.
Guy should have a lawnmower, that would work.
    No newspapers much these days.
