N00b Intro to HAMB

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by bufordtjustice, Feb 26, 2004.

  1. Hey,
    Ive been advised that I should intro myself to you folks so here it is.....Ive been checkin this sweet little site out for some time, finally got the thing to email me back for a confirm. Name is Greg, im 18 and a senior in highschool in North Syracuse, NY. Family has a 57 bel air ragtop we drive in the summer and we are in the process of restoring a 56 ragtop as well. I currently have no car [IMG] because im a bum. I have my eyes set on a local 65 buford ragtop. I dont have a whole lot of experience workin on cars, just tinkering and helping a family friend with his 55 bel air. I plan on going to Wyotech after highschool.....any feedback on the school?....Anyway....thats me. I love the site and hope to hear from some of you. Thank God for car kulture deluxe, i never would have known about the site otherwise.....till later....
    Greg

    well then, Keep your eyes open and ears open and you'll learn a whole lot here. This place is the koolest place in ciber space......uhh sorry didn't mean to ryhme, I do that some of the time...shit I did it again.. sorry well anyway welcome and lets see the pics of the 56.

  3. Well Greg you dodged the intro police. [IMG]
    Bum, I resemble that remark. A '65 buford would make a good mild (or not) '60s custom. But I'm not a purest so what do I know?
    I've never heard anything bad about Wyotec, but I don't personally know anyone that went there. Apprenticship(sp?) was the school when I was comming up, and I did hear a lot of bad about that. [IMG]
    Don't jump too quick on the Buford, there are a lot of sweet deals around here. You might just find something you can't live without.
    You'll do fine, welcome

    What's a buford? I know what a Buick is. I know what a Ford is. Must be a Ford with a Buick motor, yeah that's it. 'Cause no one in their right mind would put a Ford motor in a Buick...

  12. Buford is just a nickname for a buick......good Lord please dont mix any GM with ford.....Im not a big ford fan hehe....I say it means F&%ked Over Repaired Dodge....nothing against mopar tho, cept Neons [IMG]. Only Ford-chevy mix is a ford rod with a chevy motor hehe....im gettin way too biased now, bout to make enemies.....forget what I said haha. I love the Picture of my namesake....and the quote hehe. I look forward to learnin more and maybe I will find somethin else on here.....but a 65 buford (BUICK!) convertible with cut coils and torque thrusts sure sounds nice to me [IMG] C-ya'll Greg

  13. No young grasshopper, a Buford is indeed a Buick (preferably Nailhead) in a Ford. It IS NOT a nickname for a Buick!

  14. "When I get home I'm gonna bust your mama right in the mouth, 'cause there ain't NO way that you are spawn of MY loins!"

    Buford = Nailhead powered Ford

    Studelac = Caddy powered Studebaker

    And any number of (insert brand name here)-mobiles powered by Oldsmobile.

    Yeah that buford shit is one of my peeves. I hear it all the time from people who are trying to be cool and talk like they know about cars. Really it means they don't know dick. The only parts on my '57 that aren't Buick are Jag (suspension) and Packard (tailights). No Ford parts. And buford is supposed to be a Buick powered Ford..... Leave it at that... Otherwise welcome to the University of Pain in the Ass Way to Learn about Cars....

  16. Hehe, my fault guys.....Im not tryin to be cool, Im just going by word of mouth and what Ive seen. I was looking at one magazine (Ill look for the name) which was a buick with a 401 nailhead and they called it a buford....well....needless to say I feel like a jackass....and sorry but it doesnt mean I dont know dick about cars man. I would love to see that jag suspension on the 57 tho.

    I hear ya, yeah it's all a big test. And just because it's inprint doesn't make it right or true. I'm thinking of doing a tech on the rearend install I'm doing this coming week. And I guess someone could put a Ford engine in a Buick, but why?

    Actually, zman, we referred to Buicks as Buferts when I was growing up in Norwood (Cincinnati) Ohio. Three of us had Buick powered cars - My '34 Plymouth coupe, a Model A roadster, and a dragster - and we were pretty cool, [IMG] circa 1960. Enunciation being subjective, I guess it could be spelled Buford, Bufurt, or Bufurd, depending on local dialect.

    I admit I don't know dick (in the literal sense), but I do know a few guys named Richard that want to be called Dick, and I do know a little bit about cars. [IMG] This isn't written in an argumentative way, just to let you know that what may be true to the way you grew up, may be different in another part of the country. Matter of fact, a lot of the old hands in the Cincy area still refer to them as Buferts. Just wanted to alert you, in case you visit the area - I didn't want you to get tuckered out correcting those old guys. (They're hard of hearing now) [IMG]

    I normally don't take offense pretty thick skinned ya know, but I've probably forgotten more about cars than you will ever know. Well past the age that cool is important, and never really heard a ford with a nailhead called a buford, but have heard a lot of old buicks called bufords over the years.
    Never heard of a studelac until I came to the HAMB, although Fordilacs were pretty popular when I was a lot younger. I guess the way you describe it a buford would have to be a buick with a ford mill unless of course you're talking about Buford Pusser.
    That said, Carry on.

  24. On the Buford-name-saga: I read somewhere that the name Buford was used 'cause there was a Buick plant back in the day in a city called Buford. So Buicks hould only be reffered to as Bufords if they were built in that plant. Can somebody confirm this story?

  25. Thanx for the posts guys, as far as the plant, Ill try and do a little research, some folks on another forum might be able to help me out there.....verrrrrryyyyyyyy interesting
