I look forward to meeting you, I never miss the Road Rockets Show. After last year, I think the fuzz will be looking for us, though.
I don't understand the point of braking burnouts. Shouldn't the "cool" factor come from how long you can make your tires spin while holding down the accelerator WITHOUT being locked up? Otherwise it's just... Smoke. You don't even get the peeling out sound. Sorry if I sound mean about it, but I've been pondering it for quite some time now, and braking burnouts just don't seem to compare to open burnouts in any sense, whether it be the rush of speed, sound or skill they embody. -Gregory-
Gee Gregory, why not "ponder" the sense or skill of flamethrowing cars, which could potentially shorten their engine life. Hmmm. How about those "non-braking burnouts", seems strange to try and blow up your good tires, only to find you're now doing 40+ miles per hour with concrete walls on both sides of you when the tire pops. Hmmmm. Do you think those cars that do wheelies all the way down the track MIGHT go faster if their front tires stayed down? Hmmmmmm. Could it be the RACING is the part with speed, sound and skill? Maybe, these are just fun forms of exhibition that hot rodders do, I'm not sure. But, I'd bet you don't get invited to many parties. Not being mean about it, of course.
It's funny how I didn't bring anything personal into it. I was simply pointing out my distaste at braking burnouts. You, on the other hand, had to make a personal comment. That makes your entire post unworthy of a serious reply. Until the second to last sentence, I was taking you seriously. It's called tact, sir. Look it up. -Gregory-
Not to put a dampener on it but that wouldn't even qualify a car for the burnout comp at summernats here in Oz. Plus he would have been disqualified for sitting in the one place. The way we do it the car must be moving at all times. Points are awarded for car control, amount of smoke, showmanship (ie, hanging out of car) duration of burnout and if you blow one or both tires. Most winning cars keep that up for around 4-5 min, yup the tires live that long, often the cars don't! If you can get your hands on any of the "Brute Horsepower" DVDs you will see some serious burnouts. But hey, I still loved it! Doc.
To each his own, that's why they make vanilla and chocolate ice cream. It would be a damn dull world if we all liked vanilla ice cream. Me, I love the Neopolitan
ShakeyPuddin55- It's a 13 second car on its best day, and like I mentioned earlier, a daily driver. I plan to make it much faster as soon as I finish my 57 Ranch Wagon. That way I'll have a daily driver I can tow it to the track with. I've seen your 55 on video, it's just plain bitchin', I love it. It inspires many of us to go faster. DocWatson- I was just following the rules of the contest at that track. There were a bunch of cars that did great burnouts that day. The ones you guys have in Australia are awesome, but where I live, setting your car on fire, hanging out of the car, and popping the tires down the track doesn't go over very well with the track officials. Sir Gregory- To use your words, you were pointing out your distaste where NO ONE else was pointing out THEIR distaste. Therefore, one would naturally take your comment PERSONALLY. My reply was one of SARCASM, but since you did not detect it until the last sentence of my post, I suggest you look up the word, intelligence, followed by, etiquette. If I picked on your 1976 Jaguar XJ-S coupe, the one you have pics of here on the HAMB, that would show a severe lack of tact. Gregory J Liebau, fear not, for I have no intention of doing so. Thanks again, guys.
awesome dude, i am proud to have the scoop that i made on that !!!!! lost the pics of your car for a while but look for it soon on the scoop page of www.legendscollision.com !! all you other guys check out more pictures of scoops there also if your interested in one. . . It will make your car do long burnouts !!!
Man1 That sucker just keeps going... and going... and going... Looks familliar, too. Coincidence? Yes!
That burnout was just one of a dozen cars that participated in the burnout contest at the Rock & Race at Dragway 42. It was by far the best burnout contest that I have ever seen. Kevin's might have been the best or the guy that went right after him who smoked them about half way down the track. It was a great show. I invite all you Aussies to come to next years show and show us what your talking about. Here is a link to 4 pages of pics from the show. I will be putting on the show again next year in July at Dragway 42. This time it will be the whole weekend instead of just Saturday. http://www.dragway42.com/photogallery.html
