Hi all, As of 2026 our State Farm Cl***ic Car insurance switched, or partnered with Hagerty for our Cl***ic Car Insurance for our two "off topic" cars, our 1968 Chrysler 300 convertible and our 1970 MGB. It is still manager through our State Farm banner, so discounts etc. apply. Plus, we still have a real person to answer our odd insurance questions. My question is the additional paperwork coming from Hagerty is all about their Hagerty Driving Club and its benefits. It seems like to get the greatest advantage of a Hagerty insurance policy they want you to be a member. What experience do any of you have good or bad with Hagerty cl***ic vehicle insurance and what is this Drivers club? Thanks!
I have 4 cars insured with Hagerty but have never been a member of the drivers club. My dad was a member of the drivers club and that got him a magazine and invite to some car shows he didn’t want to go to. I’ve been very happy with the service and they are very attentive whenever I have a question or want to make a change to my policy. I haven’t made a claim, however I know several people who have had claims with Hagerty and they all say the process was quick and without any problems.
I also have multiple cars insured with Hagerty and have had no issues. But, I have also yet to need to make a claim. I also have seen no benefit in being part of the driving club.
I am also in agreement that the extra $40+ for the Drivers Club is not worth it. I have stacks of magazines from all the car clubs I belong to still in the plastic, because I don't have the time to read them. I will say that I am very happy with Hagerty's policies & customer service. since adding Laura's "Baby Bird" about ten days ago, I currently have 6 insured with them. When I added the Bird, they answered the phone within a minute & the guy helped me rearrange some things so that I am still paying the same even though I added one. The biggest adjustment was going from $0 deductible to $1K per vehicle. Since I am a painter, I would not file a claim for anything that I could fix anyway. My State Farm agent is fantastic. I just got off of the phone with her, and she answered this same question. What the approximately $70 per year gets you is discounted parts plus free towing of 100 mi. per tow and a flatbed tow truck. She didn't know about the additional perks, as she was calling Hagerty as an insurance agent for her info. It doesn't affect the crash coverage she sold me or depend on the Drivers Club in any way. I suggested that since we subscribe to AAA for their towing that includes our late model cars and any car we are driving, we might not need it. And as all stated above, the regular insurance doesn't require it. Additionally, while talking to Hagerty they suggested she mention their additional coverage that essentially gives you back your "totaled" car should you wish to have it. I guess they realize that even a totaled cl***ic is worth something and might be combined with another to make a new car again. She is getting me a quote for this additional charge to each policy. That is how our MGB came to be. It was owned previously by my service manager at the manufacturing plant I worked at. He had recently rebuilt the engine and transmission when it was involved in a crash that totaled it. He got the wreck back from the insurance company and purchased a rolling car with no engine. He put his rebuilt drivetrain in the new body and started the body work. He then put it off for the next 10 to 15 years before selling it to us. I finished putting it all together and repainted it.
I pay $70 / year for mine and think it's worth it. First, you get a nice magazine that is mostly geared to history of old cars. I get free towing up to 100 miles, I believe. I've used it 3 times in the past. It has paid for itself. My friend broke down in WVA on our way back to NC from Louisville. The discounted rate he got on a rollback was significant. If you do much driving and have several cars, your chance to have something happen increases. YMMV.
I have Hagerty on my '54 and also a AAA card. Save the $70 from the Drivers Club and apply that to the $99 per year for a AAA card. All you'll be missing out on is the magazine. I have an agreed upon value of $15k and I also have the 'cherished value' which lets you keep the car if it's totaled. $105 per year....all in.
I have Hagerty on my '66 Mu***ng but have never had a claim. The magazine is well done but has nothing to offer for the HAMB crowd.
heh...I don't have Hagerty insurance (I drive my old cars like old cars, so they don't want me), but I still ended up in their magazine ten years ago. The article has been online all this time, and a few friends who pay for the Hagerty club thing gave me their paper copies, too https://www.hagerty.com/media/events/lemons-hell-on-wheels/
