  4. My dad has told me he remembers some of the top runners at Fonda (NASCAR Modified/Sportsman)

Would have the header collectors pinstriped every week.

That was well before my time, and out of our area for sure, by the time I was involved in dirt track racing, pinstripping was not a huge deal around us.
I suppose that if someone on the team (or a close friend) was into pinstripping, the extra practice, and a place to show off their abilities was probably a good deal for all concerned.

  6. I just turned 44, I remember the tail end of the hand lettered race cars (the late 1980s early 1990s around here) (northeast) dirt sportsman and modifieds there was still some pin striping and the hoods and tail panels.

I'm 69, my kids are your age. The dirt track cars were still hand lettered up through the early 2,000 around here. There were 3-4 guys still lettering the cars. Pin stripping was not a big thing that I remember, but then again, the lettering on the cars was not what I was watching. I could identify the fastest cars, the drivers, and mostly the owners by the car number, but paint, body work, and sponsor lettering was not on my priority list. During the 70s-90s (my hey day) suspension and handling were making huge gains, I was busy watching the drivers movements and the cars suspension going into and coming out of the turns. Learning how to get the car into and out of the turns sure helped me set up the car and teach the driver for our lower cl*** car.

The front wheels were over the crosswalk lines, as if there wasn't sufficient room to walk !

The Ohno, Lew, Gonzalez Modified Roadster at Lions Dragstrip...
    upload_2026-1-6_3-56-25.png
    Hello,

Having seen many early roadsters with the simple body/frame modifications be lumped into the many named roadster cl***es, it was supposed to be our next build in a line of builds we had planned together after the 1940 Willys Gas Coupe.

My brother had this idea that he wanted to drive a dragster, but he wanted to be sure he could handle all of that power from a highly modified motor set back in a simple ch***is/body. The modified roadster cl*** was perfect for that particular application. Open air all around, a powerful motor and the dragster ch***is modified to fit the roadster body.

Well, we saw plenty of these modifications in the various roadsters. But, one stood out. The open roadster body attached to a modified dragster ch***is was going to be the closest thing to the full bare ch***is and motor combo for a gas/fuel dragster compe***ion. Most of these modified roadsters looked as if they simply plopped a roadster body right on a ch***is frame/motor combo and went racing. YRMV
