    Hello,

So, that is what my old 58 Chevy Impala would have looked like with chrome wheels. We started with plenty of choices of rim colors, trying to emulate what chrome wheels would look like on the fast cruiser. My brother wanted chrome reversed rims with small hubcaps to finish off the custom look. But, the cost of the 58 Impala new, was all he could afford, so, the extras had to be pushed to the "back burner."

Different colors of spray paint became the go to choice... That last one looks chrome, but was silver paint… During the high school teen years, this was the final look in the senior year graduation time.
upload_2026-1-5_5-9-48.png The H.S. school newspaper ran these photos + a story in the last paper for our graduating gl*** in 1962. It had painted steel rims, Chevy Impala small center caps and chrome beauty trim rings made it look as if I had chrome rims.

The real chrome reversed rims were priced out of the available funds. All funds went to savings for the week long surf trips all over So Cal coastline in the flathead powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery.

Within 1.5 years, I had saved enough money to start the final project for the 58 Impala. Buick Skylark Wire Wheels with modifications to fit the stock Chevy axles and brake hubs.

Also, thanks for the photo of the 58 Impala with chrome rims.
upload_2026-1-5_5-13-39.png I was saving for a set of chrome rims, but decided to have the Skylark Wire Rims put on for the cruising, fast acceleration mode when it was time.
That chrome phase was going to be the middle ground, but got skipped… YRMV

    Note:

The last look of the 58 Impala in 1965 was the black on black look with Buick steel wheels. That is another story… on the early HAMB.
